Blue Man Group - Love/Hate
We're 40 somethings going to Vegas in September. Been there before but never saw Blue Man Group. I've heard both good and bad. I just can't decide if it's worth the money. We do enjoy the stand-up comedy shows, and I heard Blue Man is funny. Any opinions?

Blue Man is nothing like a stand up comedy show (for one thing, there are no words spoken) but does have some humorous moments. We enjoyed it, and are in the same demographic as you all. The schtick is mostly visual and auditory, a sight-and-sound experience. Think "Teletubbies" for grown-ups and you'll come close to capturing it.

I love the Blue Man Group shows but please do not attend these shows for the humor! They are funny at times but that is not the highlight of the show by any means.
Their shows feature highly stylistic visuals and great music, and much creativity. The humor is an added benefit. Have a great time. |
I truly can't imagine not liking a BMG show. Three generations of my family (grandma, mom and me) saw it in Chicago and all loved it.

I just saw the Blue Man Group on Friday and loved every bit of it. The music mixed with humor and special effects makes it quite the package deal. It is loud though, so if loud music bothers you, you may want to pick something else, or at least grab a pair of complementary earplugs before you sit down. Our group ranged in age from 16 to 55 and all really enjoyed it!

My husband and I saw BMG in Vegas just two months ago. As others have written, it defies description, but is highly creative and really was a marvelous show - we are mid-forties and would go again.
|
The only thing I didn't like about it was when they stared at you! I was in the front row center. The poncho seat is what they called it. We had to actually where a poncho! It can get a little messy up there! But we really enjoyed the show! Definatly worth seeing!

Don't miss BMG. Saw it in Boston years ago but still remember it vividly. Nothing like you've seen before, my guess is. You can't adequately describe it, except to say that it is UNIQUE (in a good way). Worth the money. See it.

Saw it in Chicago ... loved it ... very creative and entertaining. Everyone may not love it, but I would highly recommend seeing it as it is so unusual and quite an experience no matter what you think ... then you can decide for yourself.

I agree with other posts; a BMG show is hard to describe, but I don't know when I've had so much fun at a performance. We've seen them twice in New York, and are scheduled to see the "Concert Tour" next month.
Has anyone gone to one of the traveling concerts? Just curious how that compares to t he usual show. Anyway, we recommended BMG to some folks who were going to Vegas recently, and they came back RAVING about it. If you're willing to spend the money, I think you should jump at going to the show and I know you'll love it. |
Went to the concert tour this past month when they were at Mohegan Sun Casino in CT, and it was GREAT! The driving music was terrific -- and all those drums were fantastic! You could not help but be on your feet at the end!
Did not really care for Venus Hum, one of the opening bands, but the other singer was good. Great great great -- we loved the show and had a blast! |
You will see a recent thread here where people accused those who enjoy BMG as being "high". For whatever reason, people seem to either love or hate the show. Count me with those who loved it. My hubby and I left there saying that it was one of the coolest things we've seen. Maybe it's changed in the last few years, though? It's funny, creative, the music is loud and very percussion-heavy. It's lots of black-light and day-glow colors. This is not Wayne Newton (and, no, I'm not dissing Wayne.) It's worth checking out and hopefully you'll like it. There's only one way to find out.

Hated it!!!

some friends of our said it was the worst so i guess it's just people's taste because i see alot of people liked it.

I'm neutral on BMG. I think the key is to read about it ahead of time to get an idea of what will happen. Is it funny? Yes, but they are not stand-up comedians. Is it creative? Most definitely, but in a college frat party sort of way. Is it worth it? Yes, but I don't want to see it every year. Does it have cool music? Yes, but not with many instruments you've never seen. I recommend it, but go with the flow and leave your toilet paper phobias at home :-) Mike Honeycutt |
To the contrary of others, I think the key is to know nothing about it. If we were to attempt to classify it as anything, we'd only come up short. I take visitors to the area to the show in Boston, so I've seen it 5 or 6 times now and it defies description. I've also give tix as gifts and have always heard raves about it, from all demographics.

I would never waste my time going to see the Blue Man Group. Have seen them once, and once is one time too many. It is horrible! A waste of time and not very entertaining and in a word. " Stupid"..i would rather stand in the lobby and drink bad whiskey and I do not drink

Personally I think you need to have a sophomoric exposure to music and art to appreciate this show. If you've seen many broadway shows, elite musicians, or ground breaking performances - you will be disappointed. It's basically a 2 hour drum solo played on "drums" made of large PVC pipes by mimes that are trying to act like they are from another planet. It's repetitive to the point of nausea. My wife described the show quite literally to some friends, without being judgemental, and they were in tears laughing (at how stupid it was). Example: First, one glaring mime throws marshmallows into the mouth of another glaring mime who eventually regurgitates them into the purse of a woman in the audience." Or, "Three glaring mimes feed each other twinkies and then vomit them into a to-go box." Really - this show would have been fabulous when I was 10 years old, but for older adults it's the equivalent of having a root canal.

Uh, you are a bit late, the question was posted 8 years ago.
|
Well, for the newcomers, I'll add that I was bored to tears!
