Blowing Rock - Accommodations

We are going to stay in Blowing Rock for a couple of days at the Meadowbrook inn. Has anyone been there? Any suggestions on what not to miss?

Around Blowing Rock, I suggest driving the Blue Ridge Parkway south to Linville Falls. The Lynn Cove Viaduct is worth seeing. The Falls are nice. Also Grandfather Mountain, not part of the park, is interesting and scenic. There is an admission charge for the mountain.

When are you going? It might be too cold for Grandfather Mountain -- too much ice and snow.
We are going over Christmas weekend coming up. It seems we are in for a lot of ice and cold and hopefully some snow.
Thanks for your response.

I forgot about the Moses H. Cone home that is on the parkway and open to the public. That is indoors and close to Blowing Rock. I fear the Blue Ridge Parkway may be closed in part with the cold weather blowing through.
Good Luck.

Yes, the Blue Ridge Parkway is beautiful so if weather permits definately do not miss it. Blowing Rock is a cute little village. There is a nice park on the main street. When I was there (in the summer) there were all these people lined up on the edge of the park in folding chairs. They were all retirement age it appeared. We were at first thinking there must be some kind of parade or something scheduled. Finally, we realized that they were just sitting out there watching the traffic. Very cute! Don't know if they will do the same in the winter.
Thank you all for your comments. We have just come back from our short trip up to Blowing Rock. We had a wonderful time. The weather held out and we never had a problem with ice. Even though it didn't snow that much, we even had a 'White Christmas'. Friday morning came with a white covering over everything. Blowing Rock is very quaint and it was definately too cold to be sitting outside! We stayed at the Meadowbrook inn which was very nice. We drove on the Parkway - magnificent - to Linville Falls (thank you Mr Brown) but didn't make it to Grandfather mountain as it closes at 5:00pm. We went skiing at Hawksnest which was a lot of fun. Most of the snow was manmade - but it was still good to ski on. We also went to Appalachian Mt Ski resort which had more snow. It was truly beautiful up there and we can't wait to go again.
