Bloody pop up ads

I can't believe I'm going to be one of "those people" who complains about spam. But has anyone been getting stupid pop-up adds- you know, the "you have won a gift card" kind? I thought it was my phone maybe but it only happens when I'm on Fodors forum and it freezes-- I have to close the window every time. This is recent- only the last couple of days, but it happens so frequently it's seriously annoying...so I'm wondering if it's just me or if this happening to everyone else.

I have ad blocker - I don't see any of these. A year ago I was getting so many ads it was driving me crazy. I installed adblocker and I've had no problems since.

Thanks, kathie, I think I'll try that. Strange it only happens to me here, though!

I too have been getting this but on my phone only. I thought it was my server or phone and it only happens with the fodors website. I didn't know other people were getting it as well.

Ad blockers have been recommended here for years, they cease the annoyance, and they also allow your web pages to load faster.

If websites used non-intrusive and civilized ads instead of all this animated, moving, popup, interrupting crap, then people wouldn't feel the need to use blockers.

But since they don't then ad blockers are the answer.

I agree. I am sensitive to the fact that free websites need a revenue stream, but if their ads are slowing down my browsing, sorry, I won't allow that level of intrusion.

I have been getting them. This is ONLY an issue if you are not using a PC, I never get them on my PC. But I have an Android tablet and get them but only when I'm on Fodors. So you've confirmed it is Fodors.

It doesn't look like an ad to me, I presumed it was the PC equivalent of a virus. Because pop-ups like that which happen on a PC, ifyou click on them, they can be browser hijackers, etc. You cannot even close the window, I do have to just shut everything off, and I make sure I never click on the ok part of them.

I didn't know you could download adblockers on tablets. I'll have to look into that (if this is really an ad). I don't care about ads much on PCs as they never bother me, they are just on the sides of pages or whatever, I ignore them. I don't get popup ads on my PC on any website that I can think of.

This popup is not a normal ad, it asks you to click on something to get some kind of supposed free gift card. this has been happening to me maybe about a week or so on Fodors, but only on my tablet.

Ad blockers seems to have solved the problem. I agree, I don't normally care but it keeps freezing.

I don't think it's a virus. It is selling something. To get a gift card you have to usually spend money/complete tasks

It's an ad. An ad blocker will zap it. You can get ad blockers for mobile devices, including phones and tablets.
