Blazer on Alaska cruise formal night?
Can I get by with a navy blazer, white shirt and tie on an Alaskan cruise "formal" night (on Celebrity)?
It seems that an Alaskan cruise would be less formal than a Caribbean or European one? MSCarls |
Are you planning on wearing pants? What kind?

My hubby loves to wear a tux on formal nights, but we will be on a long land trip before we get to the ship (HAL).
So space will be a problem in the luggage, he is bringing a navy blazer, with navy slacks (to look like a suit) and grey & tan slacks for the other nights- to go with the blazer. With a combo. of shirts, ties and polo shirts - he should be fine for the 28 days we are on the ship. And he'll only need 1 pair black dress shoes and dockers, for the evenings. |
Please do NOT let him wear a Navy blazer with the navy pants- Unless it is the same exact color, it will look like a put-together suit...
He can RENT a tux on the cruise= this can be planned ahead of time--then he can use his blazer and khakis or gray pants for the other nites... |
i know of a navy spur, but most blazers with whom i'm familiar are black and whited striped.

yes, It's the same color - he won't rent a tux if he has 2 at home!
I will have to remove everyday things just so he can be James Bond. The blazer/suit is the same color. Thanks |
He will be perfectly fine with what you have already selected.

Good grief: a navy blazer with navy pants, even if the color and material are an exact match (only possible if from a tailor), will look incredibly stupid. A blazer has a distinctive style; it is not a suit jacket.
He'd be far better off with gray slacks (light or charcoal). The formal night is an opportunity for anyone to dress up[ if they feel like it. A blazer and slacks with shirt/tie is not out of place, and you can dress it up by adding a handkerchief or a single flower (red rose or carnation works well). But if you don't want people snickering, forget about blazer and matching slacks. |
