Birthday trip. Which would you shoot for?
D.C.
NY Charleston for a 60th b-day and a family gathering. |
99 friends of mine from high school and I just celebrated our sixtieth birthdays in Charleston. Even with hot muggy weather and some world class rains, it was a great five days for every one of us. So many options and all walkable. Great city! But then, I love NYC and DC. Can't lose with those choices.
|
PS, Happy birthday!
|
Boy, that's a tuffy. I guess it depends on the time of year. I think I'd pick either NY or Charleston.
|
Depends on when it is, although I would lean towards Charleston for a larger group.
|
DC for the city experience and then to Charlottesville, VA(www.cliftoninn.com) for the country experience. Easy to get to and from each location.
|
Early November.
At least they are all great choices right? |
Early Nov? No contest. Charleston.
|
Scratch NYC from your list early November because that is the NYC Marathon and it is stupid expensive at that time.
Love DC and love Charleston. That's a toughie. I'd put a US map on the wall and throw darts. |
I think it will be Charleston.
I am trying to find a place to rent if possible in the city. I hate to stay out at Wild Dunes. It seems like a drive. BUT that could be a plus. Any suggestions on where to stay? I don't believe we want hotel rooms. We would like to be able to kick back on a veranda at night and have wine. |
Don't stay outside Charleston.
I did this last week and it ruins the feel. The Andrew Pinckney has townhouses. The Doubletree has suites that are really cool. I think the Lodge Alley Inn also has condo/suite like accommodations. Cocktail hour on the rooftop of the Market Pavillion or The Vendue Inn can't be beat. I did an extensive trip report entitled GoTravel's Most Excellent Charleston Report or something similar that will give you a little information on a lot of dining, hotels and attractions. |
Also, the Andrew Pinckney includes a rooftop breakfast in the room rate and the rooftop terrace is vacant in the evenings and at night. It would be a perfect place to bring your own cocktails. The reason I know this is because Mr.GoTravel and I have done this:-D
|
My only worry is that we have one traveler who will get sick of touring around fast. You know how fun those kind can be. But, we'll have to deposit him on a veranda to read then.
