Chinese bakeries have great whipped-cream-and-fresh strawberries cake....would that fit the bill?

poster above read my mind! but i don't have an address or specific bakery to recommend.

maybe you could ask the hotel what is good and nearby? they may very well have an existing relationship with a bakery they could recommend to you.

When our company orders birthday cakes, its from Just Desserts in SF, and they are divine! Especially the mocha-filled chocolate and the lemon!

Google them or try justdesserts.com, but their website seemed to be down a little while ago.

I've also heard good things about Citizen Cake.

Citizen Cake would come up with something truly elegant and unique, but not cheap!

There is a restaurant in the hotel, opened for dinners. Maybe they can get the cake for you and keep it refrigerated till you check in? In case your plane is late.

AZ beat me to it, but I was also going to recommend "Just Desserts". For Easter, we had the yellow cake w/white chocolate and cream cheese frosting and raspberry filling and it was wonderful. One of the most moist, scrumptious cakes I've ever had.

suzy, you should ask the hotel to arrange it for you. I'm sure they can do that. You might mention Just Desserts, which is legendary for its scrumptious goodies, or the hotel may have a bakery they deal with on a regular basis. But since it's the day you arrive, having the hotel handle it would be so much easier.

Not certain how much of a "foodie" you are, but Citizen Cake was just nominated (again) for a James Beard award for it's desserts. (which means, it is one of the top dessert/bakeries in the country!) I doubt they deliver, but you can always check. I suggest contacting the conceriege at the hotel to recommend somewhere. I'm certain this is not the first time they have had such a request. They probably know some incredible places, and might have contacts for delivery that you might not normally receive.

Regarding the other posts, Just Desserts is good too, but I haven't had their pastries in awhile.

Their is a bakery in the Richmond District (It's on Clement, I believe between 6th and 7th ave) that makes AMAZING cakes at a great price too. I don't know if they deliver. Here's their website:

I highly recommend them, esp. the "Princess Cake". It's beautiful, and also light, not too heavy and filling. Everyone I know who has tried it has LOVED it.

What a great surprise for your Mum! Wish her a happy birthday from all of us San Franciscians! I hope you all have a wonderful visit!

Suzy,
Hi again, I just wrote you about Schuberts. I just looked at their website in detail, and got so hungry! I live near them, and have ordered cakes from them many, many times. Every cake has been outstanding! I have a neck injury, so unfortunately I cannot work. (and no, I don't work for Schuberts or are affiliated with them in any way! :) But, I was thinking.....if it would help you out, if you wouldn't mind $20 for my gas, parking and time, I would be happy to pick up the cake and deliver it to your hotel for you. You can look at their website and see the photos and descriptions of the cakes. Then, just call them, pay for the cake by CC, and I will pick it up and deliver it to your hotel for you. I can get the $20 from you when I deliver it. What do you think? I'm just a San Franciscian who loves this city, and would love to do something nice to help out your family to celebrate. If you are interested, post back and I'll give you my contact info.

Again, have a wonderful trip!

Sorry, me again, should have mentioned, offer goes for Citizen Cake, Just Desserts, etc. too! I am just in love with SF, and enjoy when people visit and enjoy this City as much as I do. If I can help to make your trip more special, I'd love to help.

My vote also goes to Citizen Cake, don't forget to go there for a meal, as well! Another yummy-but-expensive cake option is at Tartine Bakery. www.tartinebakery.com

I had a fantastic wedding cake made at Victoria Pastry that was between North Beach and Chinatown, a want to say on Vallejo? The also did a sheet cake for me another time. Very fantastic, and they did deliver. I would imagine they are still in business, but I am about to celebrate my 12th anniversary!
