Biking at Christmas Time
 

Our Canadian family of four is looking for a bicycling vacation during Christmas break next year. We are thinking of renting a condo or villa somewhere, renting some bicycles and doing day trips but I'm not sure which states would have the temperatures we are looking for - perhaps Arizona? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of biking are you thinking of- mountain biking on trails or actually biking from where you are to another plce, on the road?

If you are wanting to rent a house and do mountain biking trails during the day, Sedona in Arizona comes to mind. We've done mountain biking there several times. My family has rented a house there between Christmas and New Years this year and we will be renting mountain bikes and doing biking and hiking. There are good trails for both there. Cool in the morning but by later in the morning we are peeling the layers off.

If you all are biking on the road, how far do you typically go in one day? There are places you can bike on road from there, but the distances are pretty far.

go to www.weather.com and type in sedona az and look at average temps. do that for any town that you fancy. Sedona is beautiful. It won't be Florida-warm but is incredibly beautiful.

Declady - what temps are you looking for? If you provide a range, we'll answer in kind.

Also, have you researched the bicycling websites? Sometimes you can find a great guided or unguided (with maps) tour.

I am located in the middle of Arizona, in Sedona, and the temps are 40 at night and about 60 during the day. You will find lots of sunshine in December even though the air is cool.

If you can't find someplace to rent, let me know...we will be in Edinburgh, Scotland during Christmas break and our house will be empty.
