Bike trip.

Together with my mate, we are planning a bike trip. We are from Indianapolis and we and thought, that we go to Chicago. I searched the web for information on the distance and time our trips.
I found for example:
http://www.routeplanner24.com/chicago-indianapolis
but it is probably time to travel by car. Anyone knows how much time we will go bike? Thank you for your help.

The distance on AAFF's route is about 330km, so if you ride 33km per hr average it'll take about 10hrs riding, more when you include stops. If you ride 16.5km per hr it'll take you twice as long.

If I were doing that ride I'd plan for two full days riding 165km/day. ymmv.

Rather than use google maps for bike routes, I prefer to use a bike routing/tracking app such as mapmyride.

Here's a route from Indy to Chicago I found on the site.

Are you experienced cyclists? From your question, I'm kind of guessing not as you'd already have some idea how long it might take you to ride a given distance. If you're not experienced cyclists, that's a long distance to bite off unless you're willing to do it over several days. Will you be carrying any type of load? I doubt very much that you're going to average 20 mph (33km an hour). I'm going to venture a guess--as an experienced cyclist myself--that you'll be lucky to average 15-16 mph. Add in some stops and possible mechanical issues, and I think it'll take you 16-17 hours. So, the chances of you doing that in a single day are slim to none--unless you have a nice lighting systme--and, as such, you'll need to find a place to stay the night en route.

And why Indy to Chicago? I've ridden all over Indiana and that's not a route that even remotely appeals to me. Heck, it's a boring 4-hour drive. But I know enough cyclists to appreciate "to each their own."
