Bike riding, Moab, horseback, Bryce
 

I'm going to Moab next month and was thinking of taking a bike tour. Has anyone done this? I'm talking about an easy ride. My husband and I are in our 40s and don't want to do the dangerous slick rock thing. If you have, what adventure company did you go through?

Also, any feedback on the horseback ride from Bryce Lodge would be appreciated. Is Bryce the best place for a ride or would you recommend another place? We're going to Bryce, Moab & Zion.

I always recommend the horse ride from the Byrce lodge (not Ruby's). It was the highlight of our trip a couple years ago. We did the 2 hour model which was plenty. It is a pretty popular trip so reservations in advance are suggested. We went on a wait list and got lucky.

Can't help you with the bike thing...

Did the horse ride from Bryce NP itself. It was my wife's absolute highlight of the trip. Two hours was more than enough for me since the burro liked to walk right at the edge of the canyons which kept me nervous. It really is an activity not to be missed.

I am not aware of any bike tours, but we did the Klondike Bluff's trail. It's an intermediate trail that brings you into Arches National Park. There are petrified dinosaur footprints along the trail. It's beautiful!

I have to admit that even though it's marked easy to intermediate, I was little intimidated. But the slickrock really grips your bike tires much better than dirt so you can climb some really steep hills.

There are several companies that do bike tours and bikes shuttles in the Moab area. Just do a web search for "Moab", or "moab bike tours" and they will come up.

Be advised that most trails in the Moab area are very technical and not for the inexperienced. There are a couple that are "easy", but that's relative. Ask for a detailed description of the "tour" when booking!

Do the 3 hour trip down into Bryce from the Lodge. It goes down Peek a boo trail and right aamong the hoodos. the 2 hour ride misses a lot! Yes, it is a little scary, but if I can do it...68 and not a rider...you can do it!

What would the weather be like in August to take this trip?

August will be HOT, meaning around 100 degrees F in Zion and Moab. Bryce Canyon is high elevation at 8,000 ft., so would normally be in the mid-80's. Afternoon thunderstorms are very likely in August.
