Big Island Volcano-Country Goose or Kilauea Lodge?
Has anyone stayed at the cottages of Country Goose or Kiluauea Lodge? Can you give me any opinions on the properties and what you liked and disliked?

I don't know the Country Goose, but you can't go wrong with Kilauea Lodge, a classy country inn with an excellent restaurant. We stayed in The Cottage, a separate building with one bedroom which was very cozy and nicely decorated.

I haven't stayed at Country Goose, but I've stayed at Kilauea Lodge twice. I've only stayed in their 2-bedroom cottage called Tutu's Place. It's located away from the lodge (close by yet far enough away that you'd want to drive over to the lodge as opposed to walking). Breakfast is included in their rates. It's pretty good and is in the main lodge building every morning. I remember one morning I didn't feel like going, so my companion went alone. He came back with a box full of food they insisted he bring back with him! I love Tutu's Place...has everything you need! A nice big airy, fully-stocked kitchen, a nice-sized living room with TV, VCR and tapes, a fireplace, a fully stocked bookshelf and if I remember correctly, there's some games to play. One bedroom has a double or queen (can't remember) and the other has 2 twin beds. I really like the place and it felt like "our home" while we were there. The only cons: I felt cold but I think most places in Volcano are like that (bring a sweater!) The other con was I heard a dog barking sometimes in the wee morning hours. It was a little annoying. But that said, I'd stay there again...even though it's about $165 a night for Tutu's!
Sorry I can't help you with Country Goose. But no matter where you stay, be sure to eat dinner at Kilauea Lodge...it's pricey but good!!

Though my reply is well over a year after the question, I wanted to reply in case someone searches Country Goose. We stayed at Country Goose 2 nights in December '04, and Joan took great care of us. Her gourmet breakfasts are enough to take you through to dinner. We stayed in the Elua room which was perfect for 3 of us. She also provides many little extras, like tropical toiletries and a varied selection of dvd/videos, not to mention flashlights to see lava at night. Top notch!

We stayed at the Country Goose in July and it was GREAT! Joan was a doll, and the breakfast was superb! Our room was very comfy, and we were happy to see that she had provided flashlights to hike at the volcano, and rain ponchos, too. I would not hesitate to stay at the Country Goose again!
