Big Island or Maui
My husband and I are planning a 25th Anniversary trip to Hawaii in September.
We will be staying on Kauai one week and either Maui or Big Island for one week. Which do you prefer? Maui or BI? Thanks! |
depends on what you like!!! the islands are very different. Hawaii is not as lush as maui, but then the volcano is something that causes that and is something that maui doesn't have. you have plantations on the big island too. if you are into just lazing on the beach, i'd say maui. when i went to the islands i stayed 3 days on maui, kauai, and hawaii. that was the best! didn't have to give up too much.
i would probably go back to hawaii, but my friend would say i am nuts and head right to maui, so it's really about what you like . I will say this, when i stayed on maui i rented a convertible, it was just the right thing to do! sorry this may not help much. |
Do Maui. Rent a Jeep do the road to Hilo, ride the bikes down
Haleakala ( use Haleakala bike company - NO BIKE MASTER) stop along the way at restaurant overlooking the valley, stop in town at bottom. Only one 100 yard hill to ride up, the rest all down hill. Do the only original Hawaiian luau. Get discount tickets for the bike and luau on website for Hawaii. |
fishinmoretimes--I assume you mean road to Hana?????

I love both BI & Maui, but I would probably go with Maui (more activity), since you are doing a week on Kauai (quiet), with a one-day trip to Hawaii to see the volcano! :-)

Both of the islands are great - and as the other posters mentioned, they are both very different from each other. I remember as we were flying to BI, my thoughts as we were about to land was "what was I thinking wanting to come here". Everything was black (from lava)...looked nothing like the other islands we had been to - but it was a great island.
If I had to choose though between Maui and BI - it'd be Maui for sure! |
