I assume you don't want to venture too far away right? A great place for a sunset dinner is at the Kona Inn. We ate the casual bar area around sunset time and they have a great fresh fish cesear salad that is very good. Very nice view as well!
Ke'ei Cafe is also great, but realy no view. Very interesting menu.
Have fun. I loved the Big Island.

Yes, I checked the Blue Bible and your hotel is on Alii Drive. The Kona Inn is also on Alli Drive in the Kona Inn Shopping Village (the heart of downtown Kona.) If you take Alii Dr. to your hotel, you will pass Kona Inn on the way.

Iceeu2,
Yes, the KCR is in Kailua-Kona. There are many places to eat if you wish to stay in Kailua Kona and even more if you expand your area. What atmosphere are you looking for, budget and cuisine? This will help determine suggestions.
Klf214,
Please don’t call the “revealed” books the Blue Bible. Those books are offensive and have fostered an us vs. them attitude with tourists and locals in which everyone loses except Doughty, who is laughing all the way to the bank but is afraid to show his face on the local TV stations.
Good luck and happy travels!

hey iceeu2,
if a view's not that important, try O's Bistro in Kona
if you want upscale and a fabulous sunset view for that first dinner, consider driving up north a bit to Pahuia at the Four Seasons Hualalai

wow,
somewhat might consider taking a chill pill or a big puff of the maui wowie
klf214 was merely trying to help out; no need for the tirade on the revealed books...that hot button has been touched upon countlessly here on this forum

I think O's or the Kona Inn may be the place(s) we are looking for but not sure. Definitely don't want fine dining after an all day journey.
What other places do you recommend while we are there? We will have to have a Roy's fix one night. Should we do that on The Big Island or Kauai?
bluefan, maybe someone should double dip and do the p&p!! Pill & Puff!!

Iceeu2,
Bubba Gumps is right on the water along Alii drive and is inexpensive, with good food and a fun atmosphere. Might be nice after traveling all day? A good spot for drinks would be next door, at Huggos on the Rocks. Relax with a drink and enjoy the sound of the surf.
As for the book – hey I just speak the truth is all.
Good luck and happy travels!

Does Huggos have drinks and food? I just know we are gonna be tired when we get there.
Early dinner, back to condo kick back and be excited and to bed pretty early. Then, dammit, up at 4 am..betcha anything!!
Keep the recommendations coming please.

Iceeu2,
Yes, they have a pupu menu and “fine” dining inside. I like the outside section better if not raining, and usually eat elsewhere first, like Big Island Grill and then go there for drinks. Or a couple of drinks and watch the sun set (beautiful).
Here is a link to their menu for the “On the Rocks” section. http://www.huggos.com/all/rocksdefault.htm

Other recs and places we ate:
Cafe Pesto (we went to the one in Kawaihae, but there is also one in Hilo)--very yummy pizza, salads, crab cakes, etc. We ate there 3 times! Just north of the Kohola resort area.
Merriman's in Waimea--excellent food--this is where we ate Thanksgiving dinner and it was just great. Very lovely town too. We also ate at the Merriman's in the King Shops, but preferred the location in Waimea, they do have different menus though.
Thai Thai in Volcano--if you're going to visit VNP and need a good, affordable place to eat, Thai Thai is great.
Bamboo in Hawi (about 30 mins north of Kohola resort)--a little pricey, but very fun (live music on the weekends, etc), good pot stickers, ribs, margaritas.
Have fun!

Hi - I second the recommendation for Ke'ei Cafe and Kona Brew Pub, both great. I also suggest http://www.restauranteur.com/kenichi/ and
http://restauranteur.com/jackiereysohanagrillcom/ and Rio's Seafood Grill in downtown Kona near Hard Rock Cafe. I have been to Roy's on the BI and Kauai and I preferred the one in Kauai.
In Kauai, we liked Roy's, also http://www.gaylordskauai.com/content.aspx?mid=2&pid=5
and Hula Girl restaurant.
Have a great trip!
