Big Island cheap eats
Good affordable places to eat on the Big Island? We will be staying at the Hilton Waikoloa. Thank you.

Head up to Waimea, about a 20 minute drive from the Hilton. Lots of affordable options there.
Waikoloa Village (about a 15 minute drive) also has a few inexpensive restaurants. Kailua (45 minutes south) is another option, although traffic between Waikoloa and Kailua can be a nightmare. |

There is a Chinese buffet in the King's Shops.
We stayed in Waikoloa Village (in May '04) and didn't see anything inexpesnive there but the grocery store! There are also cheaper eateries along Alihi Drive in downtown Kona. |
Thanks, everyone. So there's a grocery at the Waikoloa Village? Is it the nearest grocery? We plan on stocking up our hotel refrigerator on the first day to save money on food.

Sam Choy's Cafe in the industrial park (forget the name) on the road a mile or two before Kailua. Breakfast and lunch only, a serious locals place, fabulous, cheap food and lots of it.

Don't laugh...but Costco is a great cheap place for lunch! We ate there twice while getting cheap gas ($2.13 compared to $2.53). Their baked chicken sandwich is amazing!!!
