Big Family Ski Trip
 

Hello!!! We have a big group looking for a fun ski trip in the beginning of Feb. 8 Adults and 6 kids ages 4, 8, 8, 9 11 and 12. We are thinking of Mont Tremblant but are open to all suggestions. We want a place that will be easy to get to from a major airport. We are travelling from Miami and would love a direct flight somewhere. We need advice on lodging and because we are a lot of people so we would prefer a house/cottage style. We are looking for ski on-off and lots of fun stuff for non skiers and a cool town/village type place.
Any help is much appreciated!!!

hi s, assuming you are open to US ski areas. i think breckenridge would be nice for your family. nicely restored victorian town. skating rink, dog sled tours, snowmobile tours, fun shopping, lots of dining options. also close to vail, copper mtn, keystone and arapahoe basin ski areas. a 2+ hour drive from denver airport. there are shuttle vans from the resorts and town available. if you'll be renting the drive is easy. pretty much straight up the interstate.
or steamboat springs. great mountain, great kids ski school. is still a working ranch town and the ski area & town totally uses the cowboy theme which might be fun if some of those kids are boys. there are natural hot springs you can visit on the edge of town. not near other ski areas. maybe 3+ hours. up the same interstate (I70) but more time on state road than to breck.
both of these have ski in ski out condos on the base of the mountain. both have local bus system running constantly around town for those who do not stay on the mtn. buses have racks for skies.
both areas have numerous dining option - style and price.
breck is near several small towns with dining, shopping, etc. steamboat is off by itself.
hope this helps. book soon feb is prime time in the rockies.

Also consider Park City. 30 minutes from SLC and has 3 ski areas: Park City, Deer Valley, and the Canyons.

Thank you so much for all your info! I love the idea of Brekenridge but some of the family went there a few years back and said it was a hassel to get there. They want somewhere with easier range. Im going to mention it again just to see what kind of response I get but the first one was negative...
Utah sounds interesting.... Any info on those different places?

Park City is great. Not only is it a 35-minute drive from the airport, it's a nice-size Main Street type of town, with restaurants and shops. We rented a house in town (the one we rented was great, but wouldn't be big enough for your group). It turned out to be less than a block from the Park Ski ski area (ice skating, shops, skiing, etc.) but also only a 10-minute walk to Main Street. There are many rentals, though, some closer in and some farther out, but a drive into town is easy, and there's a free shuttle bus that goes into town and to the ski areas.
