Big family reunion rental house ideas

Hi! We are a large extended family of about 10 couples, two additional adults and a bunch of kids. When I was a kid we were a much smaller extended family and we would rent one large lakefront house in Michigan or at the beach in Virginia or Carolinas.
For July 2022 we decided we would like to have a family reunion once again after many years- we have outgrown one big house (I think?) so we’d need one big home as a base for group meals and then maybe 1-2 smaller walking distance cottages or homes in order accommodate all of us.
We love Michigan but I’ve had a hard time finding what we’d need- near the lake, with a pool for the kiddos. Any other suggestions of good places to go for such a large family reunion? Michigan would be great. We’ve considered Lake Tahoe. The southern states are out since it would be way too humid in July.
thank you!!

You can rule out the SC beaches if you want but being on the ocean is a way of life for a lot of us down this way!! It may or may not be humid and growing up in Ohio I also know "humidity. You might just leaf through some places at Wild Dunes near Charleston or Litchfield by the Sea in Pawley's Island. There are large houses on the beach.

Probably you can find several houses near each other and the beach in San Diego (yes Airbnb is still legal there).

July can be foggy by the coast but it usually burns off.

Of course reserving a house this early runs a risk for cancellation. You may want to follow the San Diego Airbnb battle (there is a Fodorite who will be very sad that it hasn't been totally banned as she predicted with a new mayor). A permit system is supposed to be coming later this year.

Since the new rules won't be implemented until July 2022 , a better time might be the last week of June if that is possible. Or book one with a good cancellation policy since it's a lottery.

It sounds like you want a lake or ocean, but if you're interested in a Rocky Mountain location, here are two resorts which cater to families.

1. Snow Mountain Ranch (YMCA of the Rockies) is located near Tabernash, CO (sort of between Steamboat Springs and Winter Park). It is a simple, family-friendly place, with activities for kids. (Pool is indoors, though). They have some large cabins for family reunions, plus several smaller cabins, and rustic long rooms. https://ymcarockies.org/Locations/Snow-Mountain-Ranch

2. On the other end of the budget scale, is Devil's Thumb Ranch, also near Tabernash, CO. DTR has cabins, lodge rooms, a 'bunkhouse' and a large home available for families. The Ranch is a huge, gorgeous, eco-friendly operation, with horses, hiking, zip-lining, a pool and spa, and great farm-to-table dining. https://www.devilsthumbranch.com/find-your-room/
