Big Bend at Spring Break??

How is Big Bend during spring break weeks? We're thinking about going the last week of March, with kids ages 13 and 10, and don't want to be overrun with spring breakers!!

Where is Big Bend?

Laurie, I don't think students head to the quiet of the Big Bend area, preferring the activity on the Gulf to the mountains. Our two kids both attended Texas universities and we never heard even a whisper of anyone heading to Big Bend for Spring Break among them or their friends. It is not exactly Party Central.

We took our (then) 7 and 10 year old children to Big Bend for Spring Break in March 2000 and really enjoyed it. There were quite a few European and American families doing the same thing, but no one wild.

We also went to the Davis Mountains for a few days and stayed at Indian Lodge. We visited the nearby McDonald observatory, which we all liked.

We had difficulty calling ahead for reservations at the lodges at Big Bend and Davis Mountains in January, because of Y2K computer problems and high demand. My parents just showed up at Big Bend the day we got there and were given a room without having reservations.

The desert was already getting quite hot at noon by mid-March. We all enjoyed the ranger walks and talks.

We too are planning to visit the Big Bend area and I read that there are quite a few people there during Spring break. However, judging from the size of it I think there will be room for all of us! LOL
