Bidding for Travel Site Down?

This has happened to me before, but I've tried a couple of times in the past two days to get on biddingfortravel.com and it won't connect. Is anyone else able to get on the site?

wliwl Feb 21st, 2006 08:56 AM

I posted something on there last night. (Alas, a failed bid for a hotel in State College PA.)

Hmmm... I just went there and got a notice that I've been banned from that community? What's that all about?

wliwl Feb 21st, 2006 09:06 AM

Oh well. I have no idea. www.betterbidding.com is a better site anyway.

rkkwan Feb 21st, 2006 09:19 AM

I have no problem getting on or posting.

Malesherbes Feb 21st, 2006 09:37 AM

Uh oh wliwl! Did you say something to somehow annoy the Princess? You know she feels every "pea" under her twenty (hotel) mattresses and twenty eider-down beds. LOL

jlm_mi Feb 21st, 2006 09:55 AM

jayne1973 - I was able to look at bids there on Sunday, but haven't tried since then.

wliwl - It's really great to have both sites, since probably most people don't post their winning bids to both. Twice as much research info. Your error message is probably a glitch. See this thread for more info:

Actually I'm thinking maybe I did get banned! I had one of those avatars (a photo of my dogs) because ezboard also controls a pet forum I use. Well, avatars are not allowed on biddingfortravel, and sheryl wrote to tell me that awhile ago and I quickly removed it. The problem is, it keeps coming back and I can't figure out why?! So, last night when I posted my failed bid it must have been there, so she banned me!

I guess I could persue it, or ignore her. Hmmmm. Hard choice. Not.

Malesherbes Feb 21st, 2006 12:42 PM

Just as I suspected...there was a pea under all those mattresses! :D Avatars...geez louise.

You may try explaining it, but it seems to me when the last person here was banned she couldn't even email Princess.

I have a dynamic IP so if I unplug tonight, I'll be back in tomorrow. BUT from now on I'll use that site for info, but I won't contribute to it. Her loss, as I use priceline about once a month.

RBCal Feb 21st, 2006 02:06 PM

Sounds like the web site should be renamed "banning for travel". Note even using the site for info allows the web hoster to collect money from advertising hits. If you truly wish to not support the site, don't even visit.

wliwl Feb 21st, 2006 02:33 PM

Good point.

rkkwan Feb 21st, 2006 03:05 PM

That's the strangest argument I've read. "If you truly wish to not support the site, don't even visit". Well, one visit to get information, right? What's wrong with people earning some money for providing a service? And if you don't want to get information, why visit?

I don't get it.

RBCal Feb 21st, 2006 03:35 PM

Actually, you're argument doesn't make sense. The "banning for travel" web host is well known for banning individuals for minor infractions. Thus, IF you don't agree with this behavior, DON'T use the site. There's nothing wrong with people making money from a service. However, I personally don't support POOR customer service. Whether you do is your own choice.

rkkwan Feb 21st, 2006 03:44 PM

Actually, RBCal, you're right.

I should have said in my previous post that what RBCal says is entirely correct in principle. If you don't like a site, don't visit it.

No point using information from a site for free, and then complain loudly about it.

jayne1973 Feb 22nd, 2006 08:15 AM

Arrgh -- I'd just like to be able to get ON the thing!

wliwl Feb 22nd, 2006 01:10 PM

jayne - I'm guessing you've been blocked for some unknown reason. The web site is working.

rkkwan Feb 22nd, 2006 04:56 PM

jayne1973 - biddingfortravel is one of the many forums hosted on ezboard.com. No moderator only any board can ban you from all ezboard sites. See if you can just get onto ezboard first. They have some online support forums there where you may want to post your problems getting on.

If you can't even get on to ezboard.com, then it's something on your computer blocking you.

Andrew Feb 22nd, 2006 08:04 PM

The person who got banned isn't an AOL user, are they? There's a post on BFT about that - I forget why, but AOL users in particular have issues with BFT or EZBoard and sometimes have trouble using the site, maybe even appear to be "banned."

By the way, if you can use a different web browser (Firefox instead of Internet Explorer for example) you may find you are not really "banned" after all.

I think AOL users get banned because she bans so many people she ends up banning huge reanges of IP numbers and you can get caught in a dragnet.

jayne1973 Feb 23rd, 2006 11:43 AM

Does anyone have an email address where I could contact them?

wliwl Feb 23rd, 2006 01:00 PM

It's probably a deep, dark secret, but here it is:

[email protected]

She probably won't respond...
