Bicycling in Yellowstone & Grand Teton
I am a beginner cycler and just wondering if we should bother bringing our bikes on our next trip....don't know how rough or how steep the terrain is? Is it worthwhile?
Thanks! MaryRay |
Forget everything else....I don't know if it's wise to compete with all the four-wheel traffic on those roads!

We're not beginners, but we thought about it, and decided NOT to bring our bikes in September.

Thanks for the advice... we just thought that in Sept. the roads would be less busy and that a bike ride would be nice. I was more worried about being chased by a bison!!
It would be less to pack.... Thanks again |
Hi MaryRay,
Grand Teton Natl Park is a very nice place to cycle and lots of people do it. BUT - I would be much more worried about tourists in giant motorhomes gawking at the bison, than the bison themselves! Very little cycling in Yellowstone. Roads are very steep, narrow and huge distances. |
We just got back from a group trip to those parks. A couple insisted on bringing their bikes but they hardly got used. They were just in the way all the time.

If you decide you what to bike while you are there you can rent bikes in Moose for a few hours and ride Antelope Flats. It is a beautiful ride and mostly flat as the name implies. Moose is right outside of Grand Teton park north of the Jackson Airport.

Thanks everyone for your replies...
I think we'll leave the bikes at home and take detraveler's advice and rent if we feel like it. One less thing to worry about when packing! Thanks again. MaryRay |
