BI and Kauai 11 days

Hi all -
I am planning on going in April to Bi for 6 days and Kauai 5 days. I am thinking of splitting where I stay on both islands. In Kauai I was planning on 2-3 days North shore and 2-3 days Poipu area. On BI, I was planning on Kona mostly but considering 1 day Volcano Village. Should I stay anywhere else on BI. I know that I may be trying to do to much, but I want to minimize driving back and forth and want to see and do what I can while relaxing instead of driving.
Condos seen like a good option, but I get the feeling that 1 week is preferred. Does anyone have any suggestions on my plans or places to stay if I should go ahead with my plan? Thanks for the input.

I would consider two nights in Hilo to do the volcano and that side of the island. We stayed in Kona for the whole week and it was a lot of driving to see that area. I think its 100 miles from Kona to the volcano.

Alohaaa....if you don't want to be driving, packing/un-packing on Kauai look into something on the Coconut (east) Coast.

Some nice hotels, condos in the area and a lot of good restaurants within walking distance. ((R))

travelergal, I would respectfully disagree with Kal about staying on the East coast of Kauai. I think it's way too commercial, and not as pretty as the other areas, though you can find good deals. Since April is technically still Winter there, I'd do two nights North shore because it's so beautiful and three at Poipu for the beach. On the Big Island, I would do one or two nights at Volcano Village (NOT Hilo, unless you love gray and rainy), then the rest on the Kohala/Kona Coast. Have a great trip ...

p.s.: places to stay? Big Island ... Kilauea Lodge in Volcano Village, Marriott Waikoloa Beach, Kohala coast, if the construction is done.

Kauai ... maybe the Sheraton Poipu on the South shore.

Thanks for the help- any recommendation on places to stay north shore Kauai, and Volcano village area BI. Am I correct that condos won't want me to stay 2-3 days each? thanks again!

As I mentioned above, Kilauea Lodge in Volcano Village ... A friend loved the Hanalei Bay Resort on north Kauai. Sometimes the condos will let you stay 2-3 nights ... but you pay a little more per night. Never hurts to ask, as April is a slower month!

travelergal, try vrbo.com

We are staying a few days at the new Waipouli Beach Resort and I found a great condo on vrbo. This is on the east coast. Smack dab almost in the center of the island!

Big Island B&B = My Island B&B. Nice, friendly owners with tons of info to help you plan your day. You have to stay at least two nights, however. If you're traveling alone, you could stay in the main house so you'd have people around you all the time.

I've rented through this agency before. Call them to see if they will rent for a couple of days - I bet they will. They also have a great search feature on the site.

Last year did 3 nights on the Big Island followed by 14 nights on Kauai. We flew into Hilo and stayed at The Bay House B&B which was perfect. I have a review of it with pictures on Tripadviser. The Bay House is right on Hilo Bay and only about 45 minutes to VNP. We did the park one day and then drove up the eastern coast another day. The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden (htbg.com) and the scenic drive leading there were our favorite part of the island. We've been to Kauai three times(will be four in December) and we always stay in Princeville on the North Shore. Check out the "Specials" section on the Hanalei Bay Resort web site. They offer a one time, mainlander only special of three nights for $500.
