BETWEEN YOSEMITE AND SF
 

The last leg of our trip will be between Yosemite and flying out of SF. Amount of time is flexible as I can shift other parts of the vacation. We're talking end of May.

What is your question??? What are you requesting???

If you want to know about things to see/do along the way, there is really nothing worth visiting, IMO, except the Gold Rush towns - which are close to Yosemite.

The Gold Rush ghost towns are interesting. Columbia is perhaps the best one. Murphys & Jamestown are nice also. There are others farther north, but that takes you out of the way. There should be lots of info in guide books. IMO, there is nothing at all interesting between the Gold Rush towns and the SF Bay Area (compared to SF, Gold Rush towns, & Yosemite). Sacramento is too far north - unless you plan to make this a two-day event.

Sorry but your posts aren't all that helpful. What do you mean the amount of time is 'flexible'? Are you talking a few hours or do you mean a few days to play with?

If you only have a few spare hours you really don't have time to detour anywhere. The straight drive is 4-4.5 hours. But to detour up hwy 49 to some gold rush towns/villages would essentially add a full day.

Spend as much time as you can in Yosemite. If you have an extra day or two, then spend it in Sequoia National Park(a bit south and not exactly in the direction of SF).

I agree -- I spend a lot of time exploring all along hwy 49 . . . but unless the 'flexibility' involves a full day/night (or several days) it doesn't fit.
