Between Outer Banks and D.C. - a place to stay

After a few days on the Outer Banks we will be heading to NY. We are looking for a place to stay for a night or two south of DC. Nice walking town, fishing village, or great view will do it. A good restaurant would be great.

Williamsburg. Fat Canary to eat. We can give more recommendations if you are interested.

If you are looking for a fishing village you'll have to go up the Eastern Shore and then across the Bay. If you're doing that I would recommend considering Annapolis.

Annapolis sounds like a possibility. I wouldn't have thought of it. Any ideas on this or other places?

Annapolis is made for the tourist -- State Capitol from 17th century, Naval Academy, lovely walking town, good hotels, good restaurants, water everywhere. Not sure of this, but I think would break your trip into nearly equal parts.

Annapolis is home to me and is a great place to visit. But if you'd like a place to stop, fishing village, lovely small village type try St Michaels on eastern shore.
