Better "iPod" for longhaul?
 

I have had an iPod Mini for 6 months. I just love the little bugger but the battery needs recharging after 3-4 hours. Not good for flights to Europe or all day connections!
Has anyone had a good experience with another player. I may supersize and get something more robust.
I am not current on the latest thing though...
Any ideas from those in the know???

I don't have an iPod - but FYI over on the Europe that is a long tread about iPods and one of the posters mentioned he has or is getting a recharger so it will work in cars and on planes. Might want to to check out that thread.

I have a 3rd generation iPod that lasts about 6 hours, the new 4th generation "click wheel" iPod is supposed to last up to 12 hours.

My fiance has a Creative Zen the battery lasts 14hrs (and is removable so you could have a spare), has a 30GB hard drive (holds 8,000 songs)and is considerably cheaper than the equivalent iPod (at least they are in the UK).

According to a lot of reviewers the sound quality is also better (I don't know I've never compared the two).

I have an iriver mp3 player. I purchased it because it claims to have a 32 hour battery life and it uses just one regular AA battery so you can bring or buy spares. The software to download music is easy to use. The only thing I found is that it is not compatible with all online services, for example I wanted to download books from www.audible.com and for whatever reason mine is not one of the brands compatible with that service. Also with 1GB memory it is not as large as ipod, but I just keep on my computer the music or audio books and switch around on the player what I want at any time. (website is www.iriveramerica.com, although I bought mine through Amazon).

Try www.cnet.com's reviews of mp3 players. I know that the 4th Gen iPods (I have a 40G) are better about battery life, but iPod still brings up the rear in battery life among other mp3 players. My DH had an iRiver 20G that he really enjoyed (also had an FM radio in it) and it seemed to have good batter life. Sadly, he cracked the screen and it doesn't work anymore. So, I strongly recommend buying an extended warranty for any mp3 player over ~$200.
