Bethesda, Maryland

Is Bethesda, Maryland a decent suburb to live in that's close to Washington, D.C.? How are the housing prices in general?

This was debated strenuously last week. Rather than repeat the argumens, please do a Fodors search on Bethesda.

Bethesda is a wonderful close in suburb to D.C. The metro goes there and this area has some of the best school systems. However, housing there is VERY expensive even by D.C. standards. If looking for the typical 2-story 3 bdr/2ba be prepared to pay at the very least $400k and most likely a lot more. There swas a very good and informative thread on this last week you should do a search.

Bethesda is tops. But be prepared to get in a bidding war with about 20 others for any 3br/2ba home under 750,000. If you find one for 400,000, snap it up!

Do a general search on "bethesda" to find the other thread--it is not linked to D.C. or Maryland forums, so if you select them in your search it won't come up. That thread had about 50 responses if I remember correctly. Lots of info about Bethesda & surrounding areas real estate, schools, commute, etc.
