Best Wineries in Sonoma for tours

I have found my Healdsburg hotels - now moving on to mapping out which wineries we must see.

I am looking for an outstanding tasting/tour type program for our anniversary day. I plan on a hot air balloon ride for the morning, and a private tasting for the afternoon. Any recommendations on outstanding wineries where the grounds are beautiful and a semi-private tasting? We have booked at Ferrari Carrano (sp) for another day. I would like to keep at under $50 pp. Also - any websites on talking about the wineries and reviews on same? Thanks!

If you are a member @ Ledson they will provide an amazing tasting, for free. 15 or so wines, munchies, etc. J also does a tasting w/small food pairings that is outstanding.

Thanks - I found Ledson, but not J. Is that the name?

Thanks again.

"J" is part of the Jordan winery. You can arrange a private tour of Jordan, which is on Alexander Valley Rd. "J" is their tasting room on the corner of Old Redwood Hwy and Eastside Rd. between Hbg and Windsor. I think "J" only does sparkling wines. For a change of pace, I'd suggest you visit Preston, which is on West Dry Creek, sort of behind Ferrari Carrano. Once you've taken one tour you've taken them all, IMO.

I agree with Kleroux - once you have done the private tour, others will be for the wine, not necessarily the tour. Dry Creek Road and West Dry Creek Road can keep you busy for a few days. We like stopping at places along and near River Road as well.

J has other wines, particularly pinot noir. Their general tastings are paired with appetizers (upscale, not cheese whiz and crackers) and they have never minded if a couple shares a tasting. It's one of our favorites. They also have a sit down tasting which is more extensive in the Bubble Room, again with wine/food pairings, but that would bust your budget and reservations are needed.

Ledson is an excellent choice, we had a picnic there this past March when we were in the Sonoma area for a couple of nights at the Sonoma Misison Inn. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))
