Best way to go from Queens to JFK?

Doing some research for my college son. He will not be in any rush to the airport at all, but will need to get to JFK (airport hotel) from Queens. What do you suggest? Certainly the least expensive way would be best unless it is a huge hassle.
Thanks alot for any help.

Queens is a big place. There is a train connection from Sutphin Blvd. from the E, J or Z subway lines. Here's the subway map.

JFK Airport is in Queens.

Therefore, the answer to your question is:

NO TRAVEL NEEDED.

since JFK is in queens, maybe he'll just have to walk across the street. you'll have to tell us where he'll be in Queens to get directins from there to JFK.
but since he's a college student, isn't he able to get this information for himself?

Juldie Mar 3rd, 2005 01:37 PM

He said he will be in Astoria (sp?).

earl30: Yes, he certainly is quite competent and able to check this out and deal with it on his own, but given I have time on my hands today I offered to check into this for him since people on this site have always been so kind and helpful. Sounds like helping my son out triggered something in you. Sorry about that.

Actually JFK is in Brooklyn it's LaGuardia that's in Queens.

Since we don't know exactly where he is starting from, he may be able to connect through the subway system in Queens, but he may have to go through Manhattan on the A train to the Airtran to JFK.

He can also check out the Blue Van, which is a shuttle service and will pick him up and drop him off at JFK for a set price, something like $11.

Once he gets to JFK, there are shuttles to hotels from the terminals.

Hope this helps a bit.

Now you people all have me curious. I google and find most sites say JFK is in Jamaica -- which I always thought was part of Queens, right? Meanwhile I didn't see a single site that said JFK was in Brooklyn.

JFK is in Queens and has always been in Queens. It is close to Brooklyn but remains in Queens. Well he can take the subway.Check out the map that mclaurie sent.He can take air train from jamaica station to Jfk and then shuttle to hotel. A Taxi would be about $40.00.The Blue Van option sounds like a good idea.Astoria is close to LGA and he could also take the
shuttle from there.
Good Luck

JFK in BROOKLYN? This is a joke post, right? I guess I now know which "New York expert" never to listen to on this board.

From the official JFK airport webpage:

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jhisfram.htm

"Location – JFK is located in the southeastern section of Queens County, New York City, on Jamaica Bay. It is fifteen miles by highway from midtown Manhattan. Geographic reference points are 40° 38' 28.5" north, 73° 46' 41.9" west."

How about going to Laguardia and taking a shuttle bus to JFK?

GoTravel Mar 9th, 2005 02:04 PM

I was wondering when they had moved JFK to Brooklyn.

Juldie, your post makes no sense.

If he's already at an airport hotel, he can take the airport SHUTTLE to JFK.

nytraveler Mar 9th, 2005 04:38 PM

Do you mean that he is in Astoria and needs to get to a hotel near JFK rather than to the airport itself? I would think the only choices are cab - or somehow getting to JFK (see above) and then taking the hotel shuttle to the hotel.

without knowing more details - its hard to give public transport specifics.

Thanks everyone for trying to help. He was in Queens and needed to get to an airport hotel. This all happened today as a matter of fact. He ended up getting a ride so everything worked out fine and the price couldn't be beat!
