Best way to get to Yankee Stadium from Newark

Considering a couple hotels close to EWR and wonder if there's a way to get into the city, specifically to Yankee Stadium, via public transit/subway?

Get to the NJ Transit train station (via AirTrain to Newark Airport station or taxi to Newark Penn station depending on your hotel--you hotel will know best) and take a NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station. From NY Penn Station, exit toward 7th Ave and walk one block east to 6th Avenue and 34th St and catch the D train (subway) uptown to Yankee Stadium.

If your primary purpose in coming to NYC is to attend a Yankees game, then I think you would be better off staying in Manhattan, ideally on the west side.

The real problem with an EWR hotel is that you are probably not on public transit and will have to take a hotel shuttle to the airport (15 minutes perhaps), then expensive Airtrain transport into Manhattan (30 minutes), then the subway from Penn Station to the Yankees game in the Bronx (about 30 minutes).

It's certainly possible but quite a trip and an expensive one (around $30 per person round-trip). Right now, I think you could probably get a hotel in Manhattan for roughly the same price if you search or perhaps do Priceline.

If you are fexible on your hotel choice, there's a LOVELY B&B in Manhattan on the uppest west side, and you can WALK to Yankee Stadium from there.

It's the Harlem Landmark Guest House, on W 147th ST, and quite nice, and reasonably priced for NYC. Easy to get around the city from there the A/D train is around the corner. There are a few restaurants close by and a large grocery store for convenience.

STaying at Newark and trying to see the city is not alot of fun, since you will be spending most of your time traveling in and out by public transit, which takes a LONG TIME.

Thanks y'all! I was trying to scoop up a $750 package that included RT air from DFW and hotel for two, but sounds like we should spend a little extra cash to stay in the city.

Doug, yes, that's our primary purpose. A quick get-away to see the Yankees and maybe catch a show.

travelbuff, I'll check out the B&B now.
