Best way to get Mets baseball tickets? - Any feedback on War Horse?
 

Our family will be in NYC the end of May. What is the cheapest and best way to buy Mets baseball tickets online?
Also, we are interested in getting tickets to War Horse but would love to read some recent reviews. Has anyone seen it? My children are ages 11, 12, 14 and want to see it but I am not sure. Was hoping for some feedback.
PS Any reviews yet on the Harry Potter exhibit at teh Discovery Center?

www.mets.com is their own site. Generally lots of tickets but the Mets are on the road alot at the end of the month. Then the Phillies come in - many Philly fans will come up. Probably sold out already. Id aim for May 30 or 31 (Pirates - went for Pirates - Mets last year, albeit Sept. and there were maybe 10000 people there). What dates are you going to be there?

I have never heard a negative review of War Horse -- only raves. I saw it twice in London and as an avid theatregoer, I'd say it is one of the best theatrical experiences of my life.

Do not hesitate. Rush your 11, 12, and 14 year olds and they will enjoy it as much as you will.
The show is still in "previews" and doesn't officially open until mid April, so there are no "official" reviews available. Trust me, they will be raves though.

You know, there's also minor league baseball in Brooklyn and Staten Island, not just Queens. But I think that season starts later in the year . . .

It starts in June and it is nowhere near the quality of MLB - even the Mets.

We need Saturday, May 28th. I had been checking periodically on them and the time was 1:10. I just checked the website you suggested and now it looks like the time is 7:10. Did they change the time suddenly and is this normal? Is there a chance they will change it back to 1:10? We are staying at the Affinia Demount. Will it be safe to return back late at night?
Also, there are tickets in the new family section, BJ's Club-House, a new, specially priced area of the ballpark.
Sections 338 and 339 in Citi Field's Left Field Landing are priced at $10 for kids 12 and under and $20 for adults. Does this sound like a good idea?

The Mets are not selling many advanced tickets this year, just 600,000 so far. So besides the Yanks, there should be plenty. I know I have mine for Bernie Madoff Bubble Head Night.

Times are pretty much final now. There is a chance Fox may decide to pick it up being Phillies moving it to an an afternoon game but not likely. Those sound like good deals. I dont generally sit in OF seats.

Adu, I think its time to bring back Disco Demolition night but replace Disco with Madoff Bubble Heads. Or just use dynamite...

WorldGallery, I'd think twice at an 11 and 12 year old going to War Horse. We saw it in London earlier this month. It is a really good play, but it is really hard to watch some scenes. Of course it is not literally violent - no blood and guts. Nevertheless, it conveys violence very effectively with lighting, sound and staging, plus it is emotionally very intense. Well, it's named War Horse and takes place in WWI - so be aware of that and decide if your kids are up for it. While it is adapted from a children's story, I don't think it is a children's play - far from it.

In New York 11 pm isn''t late at night - esp on a Saturday the streets will still be quite busy. And the 7 train goes right to the Mets Stadium - you'll be back in Manhattan in less than 30 minutes.

If you'll enjoy the game or not is a separate issue. I haven;t been paying attention - I'm a life-long Yankees fan - but apparently the Mets are expected to be abysmal this year.

Orcas, I'm really shocked at what you say. I first saw War Horse in London at a weekday matinee and I was surprised when three quarters of the audience averaged about age 12 -- all arriving in school buses. But they all sat there enthralled and loved every minute. I can't think of a 10 year old even who isn't used to seeing much worse violence on TV, in movies, and even video games. I can't imagine hesitating for a second.

NYT, the Mets are going to be awful, but it is a great stadium. I do not go to game based on record though. See my previously mentioned Pirates @ Mets game from last year... Its still baseball and you still have fun. With it being the Phillies, it may be a beating though...

Neo, We went for an evening show so a different age audience. The violence was in my mind -it is very effective in showing the horrors of war without being graphic. I don't know how kids would react. Maybe that's good for kids to see - what war is really about. You don't have to see the violence to "get it." And it's all told in a touching story of a boy and his horse...the family in France - very moving. It just really got to me.

Got curious. Found this blog saying the National Theatre in London says the show is appropriate for children aged 10 and up. Interesting article on this:

For someone who does not know baseball, it matters little if they see Mets or Yankees. Someone who attends there first game does not know the difference from a slider and a hook slide. It is the stadium, the crowd, the food, the atmosphere, and the color of the game that matters.

Baseball - My husband has been a Mets fan since he was a little kid (weird I know. We are from the New Orleans area). He is very interested in the whole experience, the crowd, food, atmosphere. He wants to go early and eat there, go to the gifts shops, etc. He is extremely happy about this!
Any advice on the restaurants or activities to do while in that area? Also, the games is at 7:10. How early can you get there?

There is nothing right near Citi Field that I am aware of. There are some Chinese restaurants at the next stop on the Subway. I can't help with specifics.

To say that there are "some Chinese restaurants at the next subway stop" - is quite an understatement. Fact is - that area is Flushing (the last stop on the #7 train) - home to the best Asian restaurants in the world - Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai. When we go to a game at Citi Field we factor in dining (either before or after the game) in Flushing So if the Mets play miserably(as they can) it's not a total loss. Joe's Shanghai is one place - and there are quite a few others. They beat what's available in Chinatown.

Hope you do get those tickets for War Horse - would be curious as to how far ahead it's sold out. I suspect that it's going to run for a while and be one of the few shows sold out months ahead of time, even in this crummy economy.

But it's absolutely worth it. And tell us what you think of it.
