Best way to get from San Francisco airport to city

We're looking for recommendations please on travelling from the airport in San Francisco to the Noe Valley area of the city. We will be in self-catering accommodation and will have a fair bit of luggage.
Would a taxi be the best option, considering the luggage? Or is this hugely expensive? Is a car service a better option, we used this in New York?
Thank you

Thanks, do you have a rough idea of what we could expect to pay in taxi fare? To the city in general?

We'll both have a suitcase and hand luggage. I think that, unless the taxi fare is horrendous, we'd rather get a taxi. Otherwise we'll have to get ourselves and the luggage to the the station and then, once in the city, carry it around while we find a taxi from the city to Noe Valley. Not sure we'll be feeling that keen after our flight. Of course it depends on the taxi fare. That might energise us.

Here are a couple of websites that might be helpful

You could also call a cab company and ask about the fare. If the $34 fare is correct, it would be worth it to me.

Taxi - best by far.

There is a BART station on 24th street, but then it is about 4 long uphill blocks to the closest point in the Noe Valley (Church St). No/minimal taxis in that area. If you take BART downtown to where it is easier to pick up a taxi - you'll pay $8.25 for BART then a sizable taxi ride back to the Noe Valley. You may end up paying just as much as a taxi from the airport to the Noe Valley.

If you are British & need your 3PM tea, google "lovejoys" in the Noe Valley have tea there.

Jeeze - $8.50 is from the Millbrea station. The airport cost for 2 is $16.20.

Take BART -- for Noe Valley? w/ luggage? Heck no.

Listen to Stu. He (and a several others who haven't posted to your thread yet) actually lives there and definitely won't steer you wrong.

Hello Uklisa, here is the taxi information for your review from the SFO airport website. You can also read about the other modes of transportation. Personally I would take a taxi.

Welcome to San Francisco and have a lovely time.

Loveitaly, thank you so much for the link. That's very helpful. I don't want to waste money, but struggling with luggage after the flight could make us grumpy and who wants that?
We can't wait to get there and start exploring.

A taxi should be around $38 give or take a couple of dollars. It usually costs me $40 to get to Cole Valley (which is a little further away from SFO).

You are most welcome, uklisa. There is so much to explore in San Francisco. You might want to click on our StuDudley's name as he has written so much good advice for visitors to San Francisco. I always think of him as "Mr. San Francisco".

Recently took taxi from SFO to nr Ferry Building $36.00 -- much easier than any other option.

On return trip hotel coerced us into $30 for shuttle van service. Saved a buck, but a bit of a grind wondering if we'd get there in time--we did.
