Best way to get from Reagan Int'l. to DuPont Circle

We will be driving from Williamsburg to DC and then will be dropping off our rental car at Reagan Airport. Is there an easy way to take the metro from there to DuPont Circle or should we just take a taxi. We will be arriving early-mid afternoon on a Thurs.

Just walk outside the airport entrance of National (now Reagan) and you will see and walk to the Metro right there.

My friend and I had no problem taking the Metro from the airport to Dupont Circle.

Both the Blue line and the Yellow line have stops at the airport. The Dupont stop is on the Red line, so you will need to transfer. So, you can take the yellow line to Gallery Place/Chinatown stop and transfer to the Red Line there, or you can take the Blue Line to Metro Center and then transfer to the Red Line.

The trip takes about 35-45 minutes, and transferring is very easy, as all the lines are very well marked.

I'm not sure your circumstances, but just to note: the Metro was VERY crowded when we traveled during rush hour, and it can be a bit of a pain with luggage (but very doable.) If you have either lots of luggage, or any travelers that cannot handle their own luggage, you might consider a taxi.

A taxi will run about $20 plus tip (give or take a few, and this is also dependent on the number of passengers, and can vary depending on luggage.)

Enjoy your trip!

An alternative would be to drop off the rental car at Union Station, where you can get the Red Line directly to Dupont.

bethke14 - thanks for the detailed info.
Anonymous - thanks for the tip on Union Station. We were told that we could only drop the car off at Reagan Airport (which I thought was lame!) so will double check about Union Station. We are using Hertz.
