Best way to get from LaGuardia to JFK?
I did a search, but nothing came up. So, sorry if this has been asked before.
Most of the flights AA is offering me for mileage trip to Rome have me flying into LaGuardia and out of JFK to Rome.
What are my options for getting from LaGuardia to JFK? They look to be pretty close, according to MapQuest. Is there a regular transit (train or bus) that runs between the two? If so, does anyone know where to pick that/those up and what cost might be?
Thanks for any/all replies!

I have taken the bus and on couple of occasions I took a cab.
Either one is fine. If you are flying solo the bus makes more sense economically. If there are 2+ travelers then a cab is the way to go.
During regular ops, the bus takes about 45 minutes, the cab ~30 minutes.
The only time the cab is a much better option is when there is heavy traffic on the expressway. A good cabbie will know which side streets to take to avoid the slowdown. The bus will stick to it's regular route.

How much time do you have between flights?
You should know that LGA has one of the worst on-time records in the country. So, you need time to get your luggage, get to the cab or bus (I think runs every 30 minutes) get to JFK - can take 20 minutes at 3 am or easily an hour if there is traffic, bad weather or construction - and arrive at your terminal at least 2 hours before your flight out. I would be very uncomfortable with less than 4 hours between flights - and even that might not be enough if you're late getting into LGA and there's traffic.
Is it impossible to get a flight into JFK instead?

oh, and nytraveler- No, not impossible. But I'd have to go through two connections instead of one. (for example, I have the choice of DFW-LGA and JFK-ROM OR DFW-BWI-JFK-Rome.) I was trying to figure what was better- three connections or changing airports in NY.

My DD was in Rome last semester for a study abroad. The AA flights, both on miles and not, from St. Louis fly into LGA for domestic and out of JFK for international.
When DD's boyfriend went, he took the bus: http://www.nyairportservice.com/page.php?id=57
When we went we took a cab.
And though I had never done this before, on the way home AA let me stay over in NY (to visit with my parents) a few days and fly back with no penalty. It was a good way to get a free, though jet-lagged, trip to NY.

I'm NOT still jet-lagged, but I'm typing like I am (sorry). WE refers to DH and myself. But I was the only one who stayed in NY, DH flew back to STL. DH and I used miles, DD's BF did not (his mom is a TA, so I know there were very few other options than the two airport transfer in NY).

For a taxi I say just walk out to the taxi queue. If you need a van just tell the queue attendant, and let the person behind you take the next sedan. If there are just 2 of you, you'd be surprised how much you can stuff into a taxi, including using some of the back seat if needed.
Hooking up with a specific car at LGA can be a zoo.

With that much luggage and coming from a hotel I would do a car service. Try Dial 7 or Carmel - go to the web site for possible discounts - but tell them how much luggage (and how large). Separately, am not aware of any way to get al that luggage on any plane without huge overweight charges.

Sarge: If I were you, I'd stick with the airports and go through BWI. Transiting out of an airport is always a riskier proposition. Just my 2 cents.
TXSam: Can you at least leave the kitchen sink at home? (just kidding!)

You should consider the NYAS (New York Airport Services). While it's certainly not fancy it's cheap & timely. The fare is $13 one way (each direction) and runs every 30 minutes from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Departures from JFK start at 6:30 AM. They advertise an hour drive it can be more or less based on traffic. During rush hours, roughly 6:00- 9:30 AM & 3:30-6:30 PM, allow at least 1 1/2 hours.
