Best way to get from JFK to Chelsea/Flatiron
We're landing at JFK in the early evening and will be staying at the Inn on 23rd. What is the best way to get from JFK? We will have 2 21 inch rolling suitcases but prefer not to lug them around very much.

Cab or car service, the cost is about the same (~$55). One popular car service is Carmel, 800-666-6666 or www.carmellimo.com. I use it all the time.

Flat fare cab rom JFK into the city is $45 plus toll and tip (on the fare - not the toll) so the total is about $55-$60.
There are also shuttle buses - but I think they charge about $20 per person - and take much longer.
The AirTrain would require delaing with your luggage (Air Train to Jamaica to LIRR to Penn Sta to cab or buses to hotel).

If best=cheapest, then you can take the Airtrain to the A train in Howard Beach. Get off at Penn Station and take the 1 or 9 trains to 23rd Street. You're about half a block from the Inn.
You have some stairs to navigate in the subway stations. Howard Beach is easier to navigate with luggagge than E train in Jamaica and it's about the same travel time.
Easiest is probably cab or car service.

Just my two cents, Pam. I've done both and found that the cab was easier for about the same cost. I got tired of having to try and find my hired driver upon arrival and now stick with just hopping in a cab.
The only downfall I can think to taking a cab is if there is a long wait at the cab stand when you arrive. However, I've also had driver's not show up and I'm left there wondering if I should take a cab or not.

I agree hop a cab coming in.
It is often easier to take a car back out to the airport. If you decide to do this Inn at 23rd will make the arrangments for you.
We have stayed at the Inn on 23rd and very much enjoyed it. All the rooms are different. Which one are you staying in?

Statia~Thank you. I was on the same wave length. BTW, have you seen the cover of this week's New Yorker? It has a man lying down in the back of a cab talking while Sigmund Freud is driving.
SandyBrit~we are staying in the Quilt Room. We will be there for 5 days.

I've waited 15-30 minutes in the taxi line at both JFK & LGA, particularly during the holidays. IF you're arriving at a "busy" time, consider reserving a car service. As has been noted, the cost is about the same (can be less if you have a coupon -- check online).
