Best way from LaGuardia to Stamford
 

We are flying into LaGuardia, and will be staying at a downtown hotel in Stamford. What is the best way to get there? Is there a shuttle you'd recommend? There are 4 of us.

You an look at the LGA web site to see what CT shuttles they list. Do NOT take Super Shuttle (not even sure it goes to CT).

Depending on what you are doing in Stamford and transit you need there I would just rent a car for 4 people.

NYC cabs will not want to take, don't have to and would cost a fortune.

You might also consider asking Dial 7 what they would charge - being sure to tell them 4 people plus luggage so they send a large car.

Check Connecticut Limo which offers a ahuttle type service as well as refular private cars.

The last time I had to go to Stamford we took the NYC Airporter from LGA to Grand Central, then rode the Metro North to Stamford, where our hotel's shuttle picked us up.

Thanks. NYT is there a reason I shouldn't take Super Shuttle? Someone had actually suggested it to me yesterday. They are not from your area though. We have thought about renting a car, but I'm a wee bit nervous driving there . And I'd prefer to Uber in the evenings.

EP thanks. does that require walking quite far distances? One in our group has some minor limitations from an injury. He can walk fine, just not terribly long distances.

Super Shuttle is generally not recommended in the New York area, but I believe that is mostly for people headed to Manhattan. Why? Because in a shared van like Super Shuttle, you will drive all over Manhattan dropping people at various hotels, and it can take as much a 2 hours instead of less than an hour to reach your destination.

However, you are headed to Connecticut so the situation may be different.

Super shuttle is well know not just for driving people around Manhattan but for completely missing pick ups and drop offs - even those that are prepaid and their are several documented instances of people missing fights because of their foofing around.

If I were headed to CT, I would indeed choose a CT-based service.

We had to walk from our terminal to the curb at LGA; at Grand Central, they drop you off about a block (I think) from the entrance, and then you have to get through the station to catch the train. I use Post Road Limo exclusively when going NY to CT. I've been using them for about 2 years now and they're excellent - prompt, courteous and actually cheaper by almost $100 than Dial 7 or Carmel.

Dial 7 and Carmel are ok if you're in NYC or just going from airport to NYC. They don't like going to Connecticut IMO. Had one particularly bad ride with Carmel.

The owner is Ben and he always answers my emails promptly.

Example: about $175 including meeting me at baggage claim, tolls, and from JFK to Fairfield.

$175??? wow, that seems like a lot.

Debit - no, cheap! I paid $230 to $250 with Carmel and Dial7. They charge an additional $35 or so for meet at baggage claim but they've never been able to even meet me (blew me off with some excuse despite me prepaying for this).

I should probably say that this is a private car service, for me only. Not a shuttle service. It's a nice town car or similar. Can probably hold 3-4 passengers.
