Best way from Airport to French Quarter

Hi. I am running the Mardis Gras Marathon on Sunday Feb 25th and will be arriving in NO on Thursday evening Feb 22nd by myself. Other than a taxi or a shuttle at the airport, can I take the bus (public transportation) to my hotel in the French Quarter? I looked all over the web and really couldn't find anything that negated or reinforced the bus angle. Thanks so much for your time.

Not aware of any bus schedule that will get you there the same day. We've always used taxi/shuttle since it's relatively close and not that expensive.

New Orleans used to have a policy of requiring taxis to charge a fixed price from the airport (was it $25?). If this is still the case, I'd take a taxi. Have some change, since one taxi driver said he had no change for a twenty (hmmmmmm - no change? If I were a taxi driver, I'd have change). But the taxi driver who drove us the other way at the end of our stay took the long way round and gave us a personal tour of some nice sights, all for the set price, leaving us with a very good feeling.

I think the shuttle is around $12-15 each way and a taxi is about $28-30. So as a solo person, I'd take the shuttle. If I was going with another person, I'd take a cab.

No way I'd do it personally, but you can indeed take a bus.

Check the websites for JET (Jefferson Transit) or RTA (New Orleans Regional Transit).

Thanks to everyone who replied. I am a much better informed tourist now. The shuttle appears to way upon my late night arrival.

NO NO NO! The shuttle will take much longer than a cab. Spend the extra money ($10-15 if you're solo, zero if you're a couple) and be downtown in 30 minutes as opposed top 90 minutes in the shuttle.
