best view of manhattan from brooklyn
 

Which place offers the best view of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade or the Fulton Ferry Landing? I've never been to the promenade and keep reading about how beautiful the view is. Also, how far of a walk is it from the promenade to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory? Would it be a good plan to take pictures from the promenade, then walk to the ice cream factory for ice cream, then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

It's only a few blocks to the ice cream store.

Before you cross the Brooklyn Bridge and return to Manhattan, I'd suggest you spend some time between that bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, in the area known as Dumbo. There are some great photo-ops here of the bridge abutments and Manhattan.

The walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is perhaps my favorite activity in the city. Do it, walking to Manhattan.

Which train should we take to get from Times Square to the Promenade? Also, does the Promenade lead directly to the ice cream factory?

you can take the 2 or 3 to Clark st and walk a couple of blocks to the Promenade.

There is a new path from the promenade to the park below. I haven't taken it yet. I just eye balled it yesterday from the bridge and yes you can make your way to the ice cream factory from there.

Thanks to all of you for your replies.so it sounds like the best scenario would be to take the train to Clark St., walk down Clark to the Promenade, walk the Promenade toward the Brooklyn Bridge, and at the end of the Promenade take the new path to the ice cream factory. Then walk the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. Does this sound like a good plan?

You can also take the A train from 42nd and 8th to High Street in Brooklyn, which is a little closer to DUMBO than Clark St.

I think the best view of the tip of Manhattan is from Governors Island, which is served by ferry from Battery Park, an easy walk from downtown. But there are always limitations on time... walking over the BB is awesome and everyone should do that at least once.

Fantastic views of the SOL and lower Manhattan AND the bridge from the ferry. Go at dusk. Beautiful.

The least expensive good view of lower Manhattan is on the Staten Island Ferry - no charge.

How did your Central Park walk go last trip and how many kids are following you this trip?

Thanks for asking, Sue. Our Central Park walk went great last trip. I just wish we would have had more time. We entered from 59th street and went to Gapstow Bridge. The kids recognized that area from Home Alone, etc. We walked past the Carousel and Dairy to the Mall, then to Bethesda Fountain. They saw street performers at the Mall, and took tons of pictures of each other at the fountain. They even took a group picture on one of the sets of steps leading down to the fountain. They made a giant M to represent Madison Junior High, then did a serious pose and goofy pose. They really enjoyed the park. Of course, when you have a group that size and they want to take lots of pictures, watch performers, etc., time goes fast and we had an itinerary to follow. When we left the park we gave them time to shop on 5th Avenue before going to Ellen's Stardust for dinner then a Broadway show. This year we have a total of 38 in our group-28 students and 10 teachers.

If we enter the Promenade at Clark Street, approximately how long will it take to walk the remainder of the Promenade to the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge? Thank you in advance for your replies.
