The River Cafe, 718-522-5200, has a pretty amazing view. Or you could take in a concert at BargeMusic (www.bargemusic.com) another great view and chamber music.

Why just view it? Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge -- there's no better way to experience her majesty.
Walk across from Manhattan, go to Grimaldi's Pizza, then take a water taxi back to Manhattan.

Walk along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and then down to the River Cafe... but the best view if from Fulton Ferry State Park which is a couple of minutes from the River Cafe and is beautifully set between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.
(Jacques Torres' chocolate place is nearby which can be lunch for some of us but there are also lots of restaurants along Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights)

If you want to see the Brooklyn Bridge, definitely walk it, as Gekko suggested, but it is better if you start from the Brooklyn side, so you can see Manhattan as you cross. I second the recommendation for Fulton Ferry State Park and Brooklyn Heights. You can get a good Manhattan view of the Bridge from the South Street Seaport.

The best views are from the Brooklyn side on the ferry landing at the end of Old Fulton Street - right near Grimaldi's Pizza and River Cafe. Are you coming here in the summertime? If so, the ferry landing is a must...the Brooklyn Ice Cream factory is right there...you can have some of their famous homemade stuff (the strawberry rules)while checking out the view. You can get to the ferry landing by water taxi if you wish (great views from the boat as well). The views from the park (now renamed Brooklyn Bridge Park) are wonderful as well. It's a great place to have a picnic...I go there every weekend during the summer since it's only steps from home...and it's nice and quiet and pleasant.
The lights were turned back on a few months ago, so the nighttime view is really spectacular!

The TV views are usually from Fulton Ferry Park (or is it now called Brooklyn Bridge park?) There is a kind of boardwalk and that is where ads and tv spots/shows are filmed. For example, Sex and the City had ads filmed there. There was a scene on the Sopranos filmed with the view from the River Cafe.

Most of those "movie" views are from Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's only a block or two from Grimaldi's & River Cafe. If you're on Old Fulton Street facing the ferry landing, take a right onto Water Street and walk 2 blocks. The park entrance is on the left. The park closes at dusk.
There are so many movies, commercials, and TV shows being filmed in this area that it's insane.
