best Vegas magic show for tween?
 

Hi, Any recent info on magic shows/illusionists for whole family (11 yr old who thinks she is 21) please?
Lance Burton has pretty lousy reviews on trip advisor. Any other info please?
Going 2nd week October. Also, any tips on best web site to keep track of celebs (Seinfeld, Crystal type of shows) who may be touring there at the time - there seem to be so many ticket sites my head spins.

Lance is good and clean; we saw him 6 yrs ago and except for a couple of corny bits we were awed. Remember, for every review that blasts someone you could find 2 that state the opposite. I try and find a reviewer that has similar likes and dislikes as me (Fodor’s books have reviews that I trust). Even then I get surprised and /or disappointed depending on the writer. When dealing when a younger persons likes and dislike the best way to go is opposite of the reviewer; kids taste are more honest to the lighter emotions (laugher or a rush of excitement). As for the web site try www.visitlasvegas.com/; it’s their official site so it’s probably little less sinister then one you might try randomly.

We liked Lance Burton, and so did my then 13 yr. old son. We did pay half price through a local PBS auction. Don't know if I would of been as happy at full price, LOL.

Last summer we took our 16 and 13 year olds to Penn and Teller. It was...okay. Honestly, we were all underwhelmed. Maybe they were just having an off night, but both guys seemed to be phoning it in and I found myself nodding off a couple of times! My husband and I saw Lance Burton several years ago (without the kids) and liked him much better. More of a Vegas vibe and kept our attention throughout the show.

Thanks. My concern here is that you guys all saw Lance quite a few years ago - anyone out there seen him recently please?

My visit was November 03, 2 1/2 years ago. So not real recent, but not that long ago either.

See the Mac King show!!!!!! You won't be sorry. The tickets are cheap and your kids (and you) will love it!

We saw Burton several years ago & enjoyed him. I would also suggest the ventriloquist Ron Lucas at the Rio, every day at 3:00 except Fridays. My 10 and 14 year olds saw him last year & liked his show. His site: www.ronnlucas.org. And there's the "always magical" Cirque de Soleil, if you can get tickets! My kids saw O and Ka. Both were amazing. (Not sure why the lucas site shows up twice above...couldn't edit it out)

I took my kids to Lance Burton a few years ago (not recently--sorry). His show is very kid friendly. My two kids were called up on stage and he did tricks with them. It's a good, clean, family friendly performance. No half naked ladies nor crude language here.

Try the Rick Thomas afternoon show at the Stardust.

Last year, I took both my boys 13 and 15 at the time, to see Lance Burton and Mac King. I loved both, but my kids preferred Mac King and it was A LOT cheaper. Which ever you decide, don't miss Mac King. He was at Harrah's when we were there. We saw an afternoon show.

Lance Burton, particularly the first half of his show which is 'close-up' magic. Cards, balls, etc.

We attended Lance Burton's show last week. We're in our 40s, and we really enjoyed the show. It's in a very comfortable theater, and it was very "personal." We were in the 9th row back on the floor, and I would highly recommend getting seats in the front on the floor. You will feel very connected to the show overall. I think a tween would like the show. We have four kids (not with us in Vegas), and we commented how we thought they would have liked the show. Good luck!

You probably will not enjoy Lance Burton. In your post last month the answers to your Lance Burton question all stated what a fine show he had. Still, you claim the show stinks because you read a bad review of it somewhere else. Don't go to the show. You have already made up your mind the show is no good.

Well said El_Swain. And I scanned Trip Advisor. More were positive than negative. For some people, the negative seems to stand out with them. The glass half empty instead of half full thing, LOL.
I have heard good things about Mac King though, which is who Lovestogo and Kennedy mentioned.

We were at a hotel's front desk this weekend and a lady was filing a complaint about something awful around the elevators, and wanted management to know about it, if the front desk personnel realized it, etc. We looked (and smelled) and searched, and couldn't find a single thing wrong with the elevator area, no smell, no stains, everything looked perfect. (No one else seemed to notice either.) The hotel had been renovated a few months ago and everything looked brand new and elegantly decorated, and I was going to compliment them on a job well done. I believe different eyes can see the same thing but experience different things.

We saw Lance Burton in June of 2004. His slight of hand skills were amazing. Even sitting in the third row we did not have a clue as to how he was doing what he did. Slight of hand magic with cards, birds, lit candles,is smaller scale and best appreciated close up. From a distance, like from the balcony, it may not seem so impressive. The slight of hand was not the bulk of his show. He does larger scale illusions as well. I am a big Lance Burton fan. We saw his show a few months ago.

I suppose many good magicians do these slight-of-hand tricks. I think the enjoyment is HOW WELL Lance Burton does the tricks. He is amazing.

Lance, we love you so don't get mad...But were the photos of you pasted all around Las Vegas on the busses, hotels and all taken 65 years ago? LOL
