Best travel destination for a closeted lesbian?

Hi folks,

My friend Cinda has just come to terms with her sexuality. She's a very nice old woman, who has recently realized she's a lesbian. She "came out to herself" a couple of weeks ago and has just confided in me. She has yet to tell her husband.

Anyway, she has some vacation time coming up. She wants to take a trip by herself so that she can "see some lesbians in their natural habitat."(Her words. I know...)

I told her they're all around the place. I gave her the "they're your doctors, teachers, lawyers" line but she just rolled her eyes. She says, "I want to see some REAL lesbians."

I was a little confused, but I think I know what she wants: Some place where she can see lesbian culture.

So, is there a particularly good destination for lesbians in the US?

Thanks much!

-Darvy, the travel gal

Provincetown during Women's Week. Other places could include Portland, Ore., Nantucket, a women's guesthouse in Palm Springs.

Key West has a large gay and lesbian population with at least one lesbian B&B. Check it out at gaykeywestfl.com

In the midwest somewhere, I think it's in Nebraska is a sort of theme park where they keep Lesbians for display. Most are kept behind glass in large rooms, decorated in typical Lesbian style. There is a pretty good variety of Lesbians on display and every effort is made to keep the place as "real" as possible. You will see an office where a Lesbian secretary busily works at her computer. Near by is a mock-up Doctor's office where a Lesbian doctor gives exams to other Lesbians and non-lesbians. Those watching can fill out little cards guessing which of the patients are lesbians and which are not. Those who get over 80% right win a door prize -- a free game at the billard parlor which is in the visitors center. A small fee is charged to visit and to "see" the Lesbians, but if you check those flyers at rest areas and 7-11's sometimes you can find 2 for 1 coupons. On some days they also have open houses, where you can actually mingle among the lesbians and chat with them.

I suggest your friend Google for "Lesbians-R-us Theme Park" and get the full scoop.

Patrick, I won the door prize but lost in billiards. An interesting exhibit, but I think Cinda would be better directed if she took some of the other suggestions.
