Best Travel Agency for Hawaii travel?

I want to book my 10-year anniversary which is May 7, 2004 within the next few months to Maui and Kauaii and need a great travel agent that can find us the best deal, with rental car, inter-island transport, free breakfast buffett, etc. flying from Houston, Tx. I've been searching the internet, and it seems that some of the local Hawaii agencies can obtain better deals. Who have you used that you were very pleased with? Please help!

Just be sure to really check out a travel agent you find on the web. Remember anyone can make an attractive web site, but that doesn't mean they know Hawaii or even travel for that matter. Personally, I would start checking out local agents in your area. The travel section in your local newspaper would be a good place to start.

There's many places to check to get the best deals in Hawaii. There's pleasantholidays.com (usually the best for MOST resorts) and classiccustomvacations.com Classiccustom will beat Pleasant's quote and you need a TA with custom, they have recommendations on their website. Also try American, Delta, United, etc. vacations whose rates are very competitive. Then there's luxurylink.com which has auctions for 5 star resorts in Hawaii. But you really have to research those deals, the Kapalua Bay auction seems to be the only real deal right now on that website. Finally, priceline is usually best for car rental. Have fun.

calalily you are correct in considering local travel agents. I have long considered them the better deal. I will say though that I forget the names of local agents I have used. If I were doing what you are doing I would head to a good library with a phone book from every state. This is what I did before the internet anyway. I would look up agencies that way. When you fine one with a big add come on here and ask, lcuy, Melissa, PakePokchop, islandmom and some others if they know the place.

I have called the Hawaii Visitors Bureaur on rental owners. They will let you know if the company has any fradulent claims against them.

PS Breakfast buffets get old quicker than you think if you are going for couple of weeks think about a condo rental with your own facilities for cooking. I just went to Italy for a week and I missed the ability to wake up and have a light breakfast, evening snacks where I was staying.

You might check out discoverwholesaletravel.com too. They specialize in the South Pacific. You can also talk to a live agent. We have used them for Tahiti with good luck. They do Hawaii too.

Aloha calalily,

I just read a very BAD report about Pleasant Hawaiian that booked a couple in a substandard condo at Hanalei Bay Resort.

Congrats on your anniversary... have a great time in Hawaii... aloha!
