Best transportation from JFK airport to Livingston, NJ
My husband will be arriving at JFK at 16:00 PM, after a 12-hour flight, and will need to get to Livingston, NJ.
What is the best way, from your experience, to get there, considering cost, comfort and speed - taxi, bus, train? How much would a taxi cost, and do you have recommendations for a good company that we could reserve ahead of time?
Thanks!
Shari

I would either take a limo from JFK (its too bad he wasn't arriving in Newark, it's much closer), or I would take the train to Chatham, NJ and take a car from there. I do not know at what point you can get a train from JFK. I think that the most hassle free way to get there is by limo.
There is a limo company in East Hanover which is the town right next to Livingston called Elite Limo that is really good. I've used them before going to JFK.
Also, they might have a shuttle that goes from JFK to Newark Liberty Airport. Then, you are only about 20 minutes from Livingston.
Good Luck!

There's no easy way to get from JFK to Livingston (especially with luggage) since NJ is not known for its mass transit.
If you are arriving on a weekday, by the time you deplane and gather your luggage, you will be right in the middle of rush hour.
Do yourself a favor and take a limo. It will probably cost you in the neighborhood of $80 plus tip.

There is a bus that will take you from
JFK to EWR. It is called Princeton Airporter (800)385 - 4000. They also service other places in NJ. You might ask if they offer service to Livingston. If 385 does not work try 365.

I actually live about 10 minutes from JFK and travel to livingston very often. Since you'll be at the airport you have two options. You can take a bus from JFK to grand central. I think its $11 per person and then go to NJ transit which i usually take in penn station and go to millburn which is $5.50 per person. From there its a short cab ride away. Or, you can see how much a shuttle is b/c i know there is a shuttle bus which runs between newark and JFK so from newark you can hope on a train or take a cab to livingston right from there. livingston doesnt have a train station or a bus stop so you really are limited but i would suggest a shuttle from JFK to newark and then a cab. Can't be that expensive at all.

To get to NJ from EWR depends on how much bags you have. If you have little baggage, take NJ transit (its cheap, easy, and less than a car). Visit the NJ transit website for service and schedueles (www.njtransit.com) To do this, take AirTrain to Newark Int'l Airport Station, then connect to NJ transit from there. If you have a lot of bags, use a car service
For the second question, the same rules apply. Until AirTrain service finally reaches Kennedy, heres the following:
No-little bags: Howard Beach Shuttle to A-Train (Howard Beach Station). A train into New York. For NJ Transit Trains, get off at 34th street/Penn Station and find trains in Penn Station. For NJ Transit Bus, take subway one stop further to 42nd Street/Port Authority for buses (recommend trains, as Port Authority can be seedy at times). The only con here is that this trip takes a l o n g time.
Lots o' bags - car service (use Carmel or Tel-Aviv 1800-666-6666 and 1800-777-7777, respectively)
