Best 'Top of the...' spot in Chicago
Yes, I know any restaurant or club that calls itself "Top of the (fill in the blank) tends to be overpriced and touristy.

Well, heck, I'm a tourist, plus I'm on an expense account, so lay it on me. Whats the best "Top of the ..." in Chicago?

For the view: Hancock Building's restaurant and bar (on Mich. Ave.)

For the food: Everest Room.

For both? Good luck.
|
Yes the 95th at the Hancock. Food is surprisingly decent, but pretty expensive for dinner. Lunch is more reasonable.

Hey , if you're on an expense account, go to Charlie Trotter. Then get a window seat on the way home if you want to look at the tops of buildings.

Restaurants with views (almost)always suck.

Everest has both fantastic food and, if you get a seat by the window, a great view. Service is fantastic. Avoid Cite at all costs. Go to metromix.com and search the dining archives - they have top 10 places with a view, top 10 business dining, etc...

One new place Whiskey Sky, which is at the top of the newly rennovated W Lakeshore Hotel (located where Ontario St. ends at Lake Shore Drive).

Great views, very new, but also a tad pretentious for my blood. If you want trendy with the expensive drinks that go along with that, this is the place.

And, Alex is dead-on about Cite. Second Dan on the Hancock. Everest is outstanding ... especially if someone's picking up the tab.

I love the downstairs bathrooms (lobby bar) at the W Lakeshore!!!
