Best time to Yosemite?
Any opinions on the LEAST crowded times to visit Yosemite NP? I've been thinking about a trip for years but have heard the stories about "Disneylike" crowds taking much of the joy from the experience.

Thanks,
David

To ease your mind- We went to Yosemite the end of July a couple of years ago. Like most national parks, the main crush is on the limited roads. There are lots of people who "see" Yosemite in one day by driving through... If you get out of your car and onto the trails, especially on weekdays, I don't think you'll find it TOO crowded. Plus, if you get out of the valley to other areas of the park, things get even better. That said, I'm sure Fall or Spring would be great. We spent 6 days there and had a wonderful time.

we went in early november '99......we basically owned the place. we even made a reservation at the Yosemite lodge with only 24 hrs notice so we could stay an extra day. only risk for that time of year is road closures.....only thing closed on our trip was badger pass. we've been to several national parks(grand canyon, acadia etc.) and always go in the fall/winter depending on the location........crowds were never a problem.

Probably the best time to go is in the spring--April or May--for one added reason: The waterfalls are at their peak and thus are the most magnificent.

My favorite time is early December. The snow-melt in the rivers and on the ground is beautiful. The Wawona, Awahnee, and even Tenaya Lodge are so beautiful at night. The outdoor ice skating at night is wonderful The ski area at Badger Pass is not a large (or probably as exciting for skilled skiiers), but we love cross country opportunity that is not crowded. I think it is beautiful in all seasons. Just avoid the obvious vacation times and have reservations and you will be in awe no matter what season you go!
