Best time to visit San Luis Obispo?
Someone told me winter was actually the best time for the beach there. I was thinking about February. Is it true the weather is good then? Any suggestions?

February is actually one of the rainiest months there. The hillsides are green, but it's pretty dreary.

I often spend Thanksgiving week in Morro Bay and find the weather to be delightful. Obviously it's not warm enough to swim in the ocean, but the days tend to sunny and relatively warm.

mid sept - end of oct would probaby be nice. would recommend avoiding january & february.

I was in SLO last Feb. with lite jacket. If your there between Oct and Feb, go to Pismo Beach to see the return of the Monarch Butterflies. Millions of them, also go for a drive on the beach. For excellent food and fun find out about Mc Clintock's.

I was in San Luis Obispo this past February and was soaked and cold for the entire time on that Friday. Not the most pleasant way to tour Hearst Castle later that afternoon.

McClintock's is a total tourist trap - friends who live up there tell me that no locals would ever waste their money there. Thin steaks at high prices. There's a really good steak place in Nipomo, but I can't remember the name.

The steakhouse in Nipomo is Jocko's on North Thompson Avenue. It's very casual, but great steak! It's been listed on Gourmet Magazine's Top 50 list and is definitely a popular hangout for the local Central Coast residents.

The rainy season in California is pretty universally December to April. That doesn't mean it rains all day or all week, but you do need to know that it might rain. It's the best time for the beach if you want to be alone and walk along the shore and think. But, for swimming, never. I think peak time in that area would be September/October. Summer is nice, but subject to "June Gloom" which is fog that doesn't burn off until about noon. It's still a nice time of year.

I'll be visiting Pismo Beach area on business and am takng 3 extra days to sightsee. Any suggestions for a solo traveler relative to tours, etc. Any advice will be much appreciated

Thursday evenings are the farmers' market. More than just produce---take away Mexican food and good music. Lots of fun.Would visit after March and before December for the best chance of no rain.

The mission at San Luis is worth a visit. Apple Farm Inn is a bit cutesy, but nice and cozy if it's raining and of course, you should see Hearst Castle if you've never been. I was there in March with a friend a couple years ago and we had a great time although the farmers market got rained out and it certainly wasn't sitting on the beach weather. We spent most of our time walking around in Cambria. Didn't visit Hearst castle since we had both had our fill of it before.
