Coming from CA and this will be my first trip to New York. Is there a time frame for the fall color change?

Upstate NY -- early October is the best time. The further north you go, the sooner the peak is. The further south, the later the peak.

Definitely watch the weather, it plays a big part in the coloring. But last year the colors in the Catskill Mountains were brilliant as late as the last week in October. If you come in the middle of October you should be fine.

My favorite time is Halloween week!Especially about 2 hours north of NYC..apple picking,pumpkins,chilly nights,you can smell the woodsmoke in the air.And take long walks through the leaves.

In the Northern Adirondacks, it's late September to first week in October. Southern Adirondacks and around the Capital Region, early to mid-Oct. In the Catskills, color can last 'til the end of October. Keep your eye on the weather reports and the foliage charts on the state's Website, though. It's been another really dry year up here (Albany) and the lack of rain will impact the color change.
