Best time of year to travel to KY

My options are November, December, April, June, or July. Which would you pick and why?

April

Thunder Over Louisville kicks off a two week Kentucky Derby Celebration. It is over the Ohio River near downtown Louisville.

It starts with a great airshow, the biggest annual one day airshow in the U.S.

It ends with the biggest annual firework display in the country. All for free.

2006 - Thunder Saturday, April 22

For the next two weeks there are many other Derby events including a marathon, The Great Steamboat Race, a parade and the Kentucky Derby on 1st Saturday in May.

April in Kentucky is also when trees start blossoming.

Your best weather would be June or July. In April it will be rainy most days and can even turn cold and snow flurry. November and December will be cold and dreary. I love the heat so I would vote for July!

Now I'm the opposite of kybourbon because I hate hot weather. My pick would be April or possibly very early June. I've lived in KY most of my life and absolutely hate the humidity in the summer. Frankly, I don't go out in the summer unless it's to get in my air-conditioned car to go someplace else that's air-conditioned.

November and December are just days and days of gray, overcast, weather. Whenever I think of Thanksgiving and Christmas I think of dark, dreary days.

April is beautiful. The trees become lush and green and all of the flowers, and flowering trees and shrubs are in bloom.

I would also go w/April...Certainly include a trip to Churchill Downs (even if you don't care for the ponies) as well as some of the bourbon distilleries (Jim Beam & Makers Mark will give you the biggest contrast)& also the best bourbon in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions. It looks like April would be the best time. Unfortunately, I can't be there for the Thunder or the Derby because my time off is from the beginning to the middle of the month. We wanted to get out there this summer, but couldn't work it out. It sounds like maybe that was for the best afterall. We'll try for the Spring instead.

July is KY can be REALLY hot and humid. Although, summer in KY is really pretty with all of the green pastures, etc.

FWIW, the Derby is always the first weekend in May.

April. KY is incredibly beautiful most of the time, except Jan-Feb. is kind of bland if there's no snow on the ground (which there usually isn't).

In the later part of April the trees are in full bloom and the place is absolutely incredible. Keeneland racetrack in Lex. is a must then. I wouldn't worry about snow in April, but it could be wet and possibly chilly.
