Best time of year - Key West?
What's the best time of year for visiting Key West? It would be two retired women traveling down there for some sightseeing. Not into sunbathing or a big party scene. Just looking to enjoy the local scenery, art galleries and some fun music.

Is late April a really expensive time for lodging?

Any suggestions for a nice, but not terribly expensive hotel would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Late April is still in high season but a good time to visit. A lot of places start discounting there lodging in May & by June 1 most everyone starts there off season rates. May is a good month to visit. Not to hot not to cool but some days can warm-up with some humity. Go to www.KeyWestParadise.com to check on some lodging places to fit your budget & there is a lot of other stuff there as well. You can also to a search here on Key West & finf a lot of information on everything you need to know.

Thank you for the website recommendation and weather info. I did do a search on here for Key West info, but it seemed like most of the posts were asking about romantic getaways or drinking fests. Unfortunately they don't help a lot for two retired older women looking to go visit and enjoy some warm weather, shopping and art galleries for a few days.

While the B&Bs and guest homes look nice, I haven't come across any that accomodate travellers wanting two beds. Any suggestions for a nice central, safe place suitable for us?
Thanks again.

September is also a good time to visit KW because all the college kids are back in school, fewer crowds, and it's still summer season and cheapest rates still available. As far as two beds, just about any hotel and probably even many B&Bs can provide two queens instead of one king bed if you ask for it.

P.S. There's a really pretty little hotel at the other end of Duval Street (not near the resorts but closer to the beach), I think it's called Southernmost Motel. It is very inexpensive and the rooms are very clean and really charming and pretty. It's more like a B&B and I remember they have healthy, homemade breakfasts there. I THINK it's called the Southernmost Motel. It's a large cottage and sounds like a good spot for you because a lot of the galleries & artisan stores are nearby.

Try the Key West Innkeepers Association (keywestinns.com). If you call the 800 number, they should be able to help you with an inn with two beds.

Late Fall and Winter are my favorite times because there is less rain. You could not do better for a B&B than the Duval House. They have 26 rooms and I am sure they have some with two beds. Call and ask for Renner - one of the best hosts I have ever met in all my travels!

The Tree Top Inn was a nice place to stay in Key West on one of our previous visits.

I think that anytime except summer would probably be a good time to visit. I have been there at all other time and always had wonderful visits. As far as a place to stay, I can highly recommend the Heron House, which although not cheap, is not as pricy as some of the others. It is located a block and a half from Duval Street, which is close enough to the action, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Duval to be able to have a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. I think that it's a perfect place to be able to sit back and relax and enjoy the tropical sun. It also includes a large continental breakfast buffet and afternoon wine and cheese. Makes me wish that I was going back this year!

The Heron House is one of the most expensive guest houses down there. It is nice but maybe not for someone on a budget.
