best time of the day to drive from miami to fort lauderdale

Hello,

I will spend 2 days pre-cruise in fort lauderdale. Our flight lands in Miami at 12h00 PM Friday, april 27. By the time we pick up our rental it should be around 1pm. Should we drive right ahead to fort lauderdale, or spend a few hours in south beach and then go to fort?? We want to avoid heavy traffic. Also, on Saturday, we want to drive to south beach for the day, would it be best around 9am, 8am,..... saturday

Anytime can be bad, but between 3 and 6 PM it will probably be the worst.
On Saturday I'd think the earlier the better -- but shouldn't be as bad as the weekdays in any case. In fact I wouldn't worry about what time of the morning you went.

So I'd suggest you head to Ft. Lauderdale when you arrive and save the trip to South Beach for Saturday.

thanks!!!

Where are the sawgrass outlets? Closer to fort lauderdale or miami, is it on the way?

They are closer to Lauderdale, west of there. If you wanted to go there on your way, you'd be best to leave the Miami Airport area going north on I-75 (not I-95). As I-75 meets 595 near Ft. Lauderdale, that road continues on to become Sawgrass Parkway -- take that continuing north (RATHER than the exit to continue I-75 to Naples) and there will be a sign for Sawgrass Mills outlets -- I believe it is the first exit.

Be sure to get the printed directions from the car rental place. I know when we've gotten cars there they will give you detailed print outs for going to various places and I wouldn't be surprised if they even have one for how to get from the Miami Airport to Sawgrass.

I don't know where you live, but Sawgrass outlets are very disappointing. If you have any outlet malls near you, don't bother with this one. Mainly low-end stuff.

I agree with Elainee...with only two days, don't waste any of your time at Sawgrass. We stopped last year driving from Boca Raton to Naples and were disappointed.

I enjoyed the sawgrass mills. Lots of stores and restaurants that I don't have access to at home.
