Best Thesaurus?
 

A friend asked for a thesaurus for Christmas and I want to get her the very best one I can. Any suggestions?<BR><BR>(Yes, I know this isn't a travel-related question, but Fodorites can be so knowledgable and helpful. And I'm going to TRAVEL to a bookstore to buy it, so there.)

How come there's not another word for "thesaurus?"

Roget's is the famous one, but make sure you get the one that's in a dictionary format. I forget exactly how the other format works, but I remember it being a pain in the neck trying to look up a word.<BR><BR>

Roget's International (in hard cover) is the best one. It used to be published by Crowell, but the company my have changed hands.<BR><BR>(I'm only answering because you worked so hard -- and failed so brilliantly -- at making this sound like a travel question.)

Actually I have a Roget's hardcover sitting here next to me and it disappoints me at times.<BR>It's certainly a good thesaurus, but I've run across thesauri with better depth at Barnes and Noble. I can't recall specific publishers, though...sorry.<BR>BUT: if it's for college or everyday use, Roget's will do just fine.<BR>(I'm a writer so I'm more demanding than most, I suppose).
