Moshe's Falafel, a yellow cart on W. 46th St., just east of 6th Avenue, is outstanding. Go sit in the park across the street to eat it b/c it's very messy. But it's delicious. If you're not sure about the hot sauce, ask for it on the side, b/c it can be very hot.
Also, I'm a native NY'er and have eaten dirty water hot dogs all my life and have never gotten sick. I love them. Sabrett's, the ones with the blue and yellow umbrellas, are the best, and they are everywhere.
I'd be wary of the souvlaki stands that sell beef and chicken.

In NYC yesterday for a quick trip.
Made a point of hitting a Rafiqi Halal Cart (this one on 8th and Broadway) for a great chicken and rice platter. $4.25 for a good meal.
The vendor mentioned that Rafiqi now has 18 carts scattered around NYC. I'm hoping to find all of them and do a google mashup. Post here if you know where they are...
Thanks, gb

I passed one yesterday on 6th Avenue around 10th Street, give or take a few street blocks. I will keep an eye out for others..
But really, that food is nothing special aside from its low price, in my opinion..
