Best stop/place for salmon souvenirs?

I'd like to buy salmon (types that do not require refrigeration) as souvenirs to bring home with me, and was wondering if there are some places that are better for that type of purchase than others? I will be at:

Cruise portion:
- Ketchikan
- Icy Strait
- Juneau
- Skagway

Land portion:
- Seward
- Anchorage
- Wasilla
- Denali National Park area
- Fairbanks

Also is there any good canned crab meat around?

Any experience with specific stores also much appreciated - enjoy-la!

It's tough to beat the large Taku Smokery in Juneau, right under the Mt Roberts Tramway.

We caught and shipped our own. Had it cold smoked and hot smoked, while some of it just frozen filets. All very good.

My parents sent us a variety of salmon, while on their recent trip, from Taku Smokery. I will agree with explorenorth, it was very good.

Since your screen name includes chowder- I thought the salmon chowder at the top of the tram at Alyeska was the best we had.

I think I like the sockeye salmon best, and the king is my 2nd favorite.

Don't be afraid to buy some fresh frozen and have it shipped to your house. It really is better.

Thx a mint for sharing your experience, spirobulldog. I'm sure there's extra pleasure in catching it yourself too!

Appreciate the tips on salmon choices and on the chowder - we'll be passing Girdwood twice and was on the fence about stopping at Alyeska. ;)

Enjoy-la!

Silver Lining in Ketchikan has salmon for sale in a variety of preparations.

We are in the Alaska Crab industry and as far as I know there are no commercially canned King Crab or Opilio (Snow) Crab. Dungeness can sometimes be found around Seattle.
