Best spa you have ever used?

I want a weekend getaway with a great spa. Any suggestions?

starrsville Mar 23rd, 2005 05:05 AM

Weekend getaway from where?
My favorite spa experience was the Four Seasons on the Big Island.

Dick Mar 23rd, 2005 06:00 AM

I agree, weekend getaway is dependent on where you live.

As for the best spa, my vot is for Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea on Maui.

Mandalay Bay in Vegas has a really nice spa. That is a pretty doable getaway from anywhere in the Lower 48. I'm sure they have info and pictures on their website. You can often get reasonable rates there although weekdays are less expensive than weekends. The pool rocks too.

I live near Atlanta, butI am fortunate in that I can wing to all sorts of places.

jlm_mi Mar 23rd, 2005 08:01 AM

Still, a relaxing weekend getaway that involves 5+ hours of flying each way suddenly becomes a lot less relaxing!

I'm sure people who have visited spas closer to your area will chime in. :)

Have you looked at spafinder.com? You can search by location.

By best spa I am guessing you mean a large range of treatments and nice facilities. There would be lots of spas that qualify. Golden Door and Canyon Ranch come to mind first as they are spas with hotels, as opposed to hotels with spas. Take a look at their websites.

The Ritz-Carlton at Reynolds Plantation outside Atlanta is supposed to have a great spa. Go to ritz-carlton.com

The Marriott Camelback resort in Scottsdale/Phoenix has an excellent spa which is in a separate pare of the hotel will its own pool, restaurant etc. Marriott.com. The spa at the Phoenician is supposed to be very good as well, go to starwood.com

The El Conquistador hotel in Puerto Rico has an excellent Golden Door spa, go to http://www.wyndham.com.

If you can get to Europe for a long weekend, then the Four Seasons Lisbon and the Lausanne Palace & Spa in Lausanne, Switzerland both have excellent spas, the facilities at the Four Seasons are very new and really lovely. Fourseasons.com and lausanne-palace.com

Chiva Som in Thailand is far and away the best spa I have been to, but I am guessing Thailand is not a good weekend getaway for you.

Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain outside of Scottsdale, AZ. Fabulous weekend getaway. Visited last September - can't wait to go back.

stellaluna Mar 23rd, 2005 02:38 PM

interested in the Sanctuary myself. spas that i've enjoyed but not necessarily weekend destinations: Anara Spa at Hyatt Kauai, spa at Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Serenity Spa at Outrigger Reef on Waikiki Beach, Oahu....
day spas: best yet is Kabuki in San Francisco. TruSpa in SF also very nice....

Thanks for your recommendations; I appreciate your help. As for the other comments, a weekend getaway really has NOTHING to do with where I live. My weekend may last longer than yours and I happen to love to fly. Go figure.

Since someone mentioned Vegas, has anyone tried the spa services at the Venetian?

Alice Mar 23rd, 2005 03:36 PM

I have. I was not happy with the atmosphere or the service - very locker room like, cold, small waiting areas. It was a Canyon Ranch if that matters.

jlm_mi Mar 23rd, 2005 04:07 PM

Sorry for trying to be helpful. ;)

A weekend is actually 2 days, regardless of how many days around it you have off of work. People do sometimes refer to a 3-day weekend, but the qualifier 3-day is used because a normal weekend is 2 days. And I can't fathom anyone being willing to fly from Atlanta to Thailand to go to a spa if they have actually just a weekend in which to do it. Go figure.

starrsville Mar 23rd, 2005 04:14 PM

Well, if you don't want to fly, there are two spectacular top-rated spas in driving distance. The Spa at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation and the Grove Park Spa in Asheville are both award winning spas - both ranked in the top 10 in the country.

Chateau Elan has a nice spa. And in the metro area, Natural Body has several locations. The Alpharetta location has a very nice ambiance (better than Virginia Highland or Sandy Springs).

But, fly fly away. LaCosta in California is a old but recently renovated standby. Aventura in South Florida is very good. The Scottsdale area has several good hotel spas. Enjoy your relaxing.

jlm-mi, have you ever considered getting help for your arrogance and control issues?

itsv Mar 23rd, 2005 06:05 PM

Miraval near Tucson Arizona is incredible. I have been there 4 times (thanks hubby) and have never been disappointed. So many things to do or not do, whatever is your choice. I go for either 3 nights or 4 nights.

starrsville Mar 23rd, 2005 06:17 PM

Sally, if the truth be told, your posts have a tone of arrogance. We are trying to be helpful. If you don't want input, please disregard my posts. I am sorry I wasted my time and yours responding.

My two favorites are Enchantment Resort and Ritz Carlton Key Biscatne

babs001 Mar 23rd, 2005 08:03 PM

The Huntington Hotel in SF has a nice day spa.

Fredrichbad Spa, Baden Baden, Germany
"16 naked steps to cleanliness and wellbeing"
An awesome experience, about $55 dollars each for 16 spa treatments. I would love to find something like this in the US.
